Article source: Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture AB

Redevelopment of a centrally located site in Göteborg. The commission was to develop the future empty site remaining from the planned demolishing of the old bridge Göta älvbron.

The Proposal aims to link the fragmented urban fabric that is the present state of the site. A new green urban axis connects the waterfront with the city center and existing green urban areas. This new walk and bicycle path aims to secure green public space in a future densification of the central site.

Victoria Tower in Kista, Sweden by Wingårdh Arkitektkontor

Sunday, October 7th, 2012

Article source: Wingårdh Arkitektkontor

As one of the tallest buildings in Stockholm, Victoria Tower stands out among its neighbors and acts as an icon of the surround area. Situated between Stockholm proper and the city airport, the tower serves a nearby office park with conference and office facilities, as well as providing a 229 room hotel. The tessellated façade of the building is clad entirely in colored glass, though in actuality two-thirds of the walls are fully insulated. This allows the tower to appear as a colorful prism in its geometry and materiality while meeting the needs for energy conservation. The tower has a parallelogram-shaped plan for floors 2–21, which is comprised of the hotel rooms, while the upper floors are rectangular, delineating the office spaces and a roof bar. This causes the top floors to cantilever slightly above the underlying shaft, emphasizing its geometry.

The Mill House in Skane, Sweden by Wingardh Arkitektkontor AB trough

Saturday, September 15th, 2012

Article source: Wingardh Arkitektkontor AB trough

Wingårdh converted a large old farm in the countryside in southern Sweden into a vacation house for a family from the nearby city of Malmö. He transformed the original farm buildings – cowshed, stables, hay loft and barn – into sleeping quarters, kitchen and a gym, among other rooms, and added a new freestanding wing to the late 19th -century house. This little annex is a refuge, a quiet place to escape to or a private domain for guests to inhabit. Throughout the project, the client demonstrated unwavering faith in the architect, giving him great latitude in designing the little fifty-square-meter cottage.

Stockholm City Station in Sweden by 3XN

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

Article source: 3XN Architects

‘Stockholm City Station’ will mark the entrance to Stockholm’s inner city center and integrates the station, a hotel and conference center along with apartments. The main idea behind the design was to create a building that gently adjusts to the area’s existing building in scale and expression, and which reinterprets a number of local Swedish design traditions.

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Article source: Marcio Rodrigues

The project was develloped to a student competition promoted by chalmers, to desing a “naturum”, a nature museum, deeply connected with the river of goteborg.

TWO MAIN INTENTIONS:

beacon/lighthouse_ light possibilities of the materials. The polycarbonate panels blends with the colours of the site and with the light. it’s a neutral material which gives and industrial sense to this architecture. during the day, a silent intervention, during the night a light reference for the river and to the city skyline.

Wooden Structures in Göteborg, Sweden by Márcio Rodrigues

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Article source: Márcio Rodrigues

The project was develloped along the year, and it started with an urban analysis of the area of Göteborg located north of Nordstan comercial area. The strategy was to create a green corridor, along a small river that could be enhanced and reutilized. The strategy was a sort of spine, made by a interconection of green spaces, and some common elements define it: the river, the new proposed cycling lane and the pedestrian way. The structures that we propose are modular and there is a possible extension to the global intervention: a logic that can be repeated along all the system, adapting to the conditions of each site.

New Studenternas IP development in Uppsala, Sweden by Karlsson Wachenfeldt arkitekter AB

Friday, August 10th, 2012

Article source: Karlsson Wachenfeldt arkitekter AB

Uppsala is an expanding university town located north of Stockholm. Studenternas IP, a sports field with long traditions, is situated by the river Fyrisån in the very centre of the town within the park Stadsträdgården. The project is part of a major re-development of the south river area and includes housing, parks, sport facilities and infrastructure.

The location of the site is highly sensitive from a historical point of view, the scale and integrity of the surrounding park and river area must be preserved, also when introducing a large scale development. To the west the main Hospital of the region located, a large scale complex.

Cycling Center in Gothenburg, Sweden by Weareyou

Sunday, July 1st, 2012

Article source: Weareyou

“Here’s our vision of what a cycling center in the city of Gothenburg could be.

The group called cyclists is a scattered bunch of people ranging from commuters to exercisers and committed athletes. They are also divided by the choice of bike. Commuters rarely hang out with the people getting dirty in the woods and BMX riders have probably never had the chance to ask why roadies shave their legs. This calls for a change and that’s where this proposal took its starting point. Cyclists need an arena just like any other sport: soccer, ice hockey etc. where the stadium acts as the natural meeting point, ambassador of the sport and its practitioners. We also believe that sports are closely connected to everyday behavior and life style.
