Cemetary Service Building at Ulriksdal in Stockholm, Sweden by Petra Gipp Arkitektur and In Praise of Shadows

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Article source: Petra Gipp Arkitektur and In Praise of Shadows

We see a cemetery as a place which is naturally linked to life. To the development of life through time and through the world, something wandering which suddenly one day can end. A demystified relationship to death makes life easier to live.

More projects by Henning Larsen Architects

The new office building at Hyllie Station Square will become a distinctive architectural landmark and will contribute to creating a new, vibrant urban space together with the other characteristic buildings in the area. The building has a sculptural, monolithic expression. Conceptually, it can be considered as a large split rock consisting of three natural volumes, created by the splitting process.

SV Palladio – Strandbaden in Höganäs, Sweden by DinellJohansson

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Article source: DinellJohansson

This small summerhouse at the coast of Höganäs was modeled after Palladios famous villas in the Veneto. Different from those extraordinary estates, this house is all about spatial economy. The goal was to create a maximum amount of spatial subdivisions in a building whose size was limited by budget constraints. With Palladios villas it shares the intriguing quality of the cross shaped space and the idea of summer life as an utterly joyful experience.

Drevviken House in Farsta, Sweden by Claesson Koivisto Rune Arkitektkontor (designed using ArchiCAD)

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Article source: Claesson Koivisto Rune Arkitektkontor AB

Only ten minutes from Stockholm centre lies this piece of surprisingly un-touched natural landscape hidden. The lot is directly on the Drevviken lake with its own little cove. The crescent of the cove follows the slightly bowl-shaped land that also gave the shape of the house. The house is itself a kind of up-turned crescent with foundation and roof lines in parallel curves. With three different floor levels inside, the land could be left un-touched for the building. So the sculptural quality of the house follows the nature of the site rather than being a gesture.

Galleri Örsta in Kumla, Sweden by Claesson Koivisto Rune

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Article source: Claesson Koivisto Rune

A gallery for modern art, placed in a field. The whole gallery building shines like a traffic sign, when seen from a certain angle.

The gallery building

The new gallery building creates a ‘hamlet’ with the adjacent old farmhouses and the owners’ house, together representing three centuries of building tradition. Positioned on top of an artificial hill, as a buffer to the site’s moist soil, the base of the building follows the hill’s topology. The resulting series of curves at the building’s base, combined with mirroring curves in the rooflines, makes the planar facades seem curved – a bit like ‘cinemascope’ screens.

House Morran in Gothenburg Archipelago, Sweden by Johannes Norlander Arkitektur AB

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

Article source: Johannes Norlander Arkitektur AB

The house is located on an island just by the sea fairway to the port of Gothenburg . The project is a transformation of a warn down cottage from the 50’s with an extension from the mid 70’s. The building volume and most of the structure has been kept intact, in order not to exploit the landscape but just to refine and strengthen the qualities already existing on the site.
