The plot in Zurich-Witikon is located right next to designated open land. All 15 condominiums offer generous layouts and a very high standard. The different sized apartments and their spacial arrangements prevent sleeping rooms to be located next to living rooms.
Loggias and terraces are arranged in order to guarantee privacy from neighbouring surroundings. The buildings' facade is dominated by the horizontal concrete bands and vertical wooden cover made of larch.
Following a sharp increase in the demand for sports facilities, the Vernier Stadium, located in Geneva mandated our firm to design and deliver the extension of the changing rooms.
Facing the playing field, the extension of the building is located on the ground floor and contains 12 changing room and all the necessary facilities.
The building reveals the repetition of the premises it hosts and expresses the simplicity and rationality of its implementation. A unifying cover opens generously on the sports fields and distributions all the locker rooms. It serves multiple purposes such as providing an area of fluid passageway, a convenient meeting point and an area for shade in the summer time. It is the link between the entire building.
The Mulegn Powerplant is located approximately in the middle of the flat stretch of the Ragn d'Err stream between the Kantonsstrasse and the inflow into the Gelgia river, on the northern side of the stream. Access to the building is via the main road running parallel to Ragn d'Err stream. The building is designed so that it is as safe as possible in the event of flood.
Working as developers, builders, and managers, Losinger Marazzi is a global actor in the real-estate industry. As part of their “2020 Vision” focused on urban regeneration and smart cities, they challenged Studio Banana to design a new home for their Lausanne regional agency in the Oassis neighbourhood they developed and built in the town of Crissier.
The new church convinces through its self-confident appearance at this busy location in the industrial area at the edge of the city of Murten.
The building is divided into two main bodies: The hall which is 11 meters high and the side wing which is 3.80 meters high. Those two structures close the space against the street. Together with the surrounding wall, the plant room and the four existing plane trees they build a protected outside space from where one can enter the foyer. The hall offers 150 seats and grants the building with its big hight the required presence in this barren landscape.
To the north of the municipality of La Tour-de-Peilz, on the edge of Lake Geneva, lies an old vineyard above the town. The setting is distinctive: the southern side of the hill is built up, whereas most of the northern slope is covered in woodland. A steep lane leads to the site, flanked by high walls, just like a path running through a vineyard. The theme of the wall is an integral part of the neighbourhood.
The project draws inspiration from this theme, taking its cue from existing structures. The wall blends in with the lie of the land, before undergoing a transformation into a sculpted monolith that rises from the top of the hill.
The two maisonette apartments are located in a tree grove at the edge of Zürich. The tree grove is part of a forest arm that permeates through the city. From dense foliage in summer, the location metamorphoses in winter into a snowy scenery with a beautiful creek that flows to the lake of Zürich.
The parcel is diagonally divided by the forest, constraining the layout of the house to a triangular shape. To give the house a spacious living space, we used the slope of the parcel to vertically separate the two apartments. Furthermore, the structure features overhangs to enlarge the surface of the upper floors.
The WIPO Conference Hall lies between the organization’s main building Bâtiment AB and the administration building by Behnisch Architekten.
The WIPO Campus is located in the United Nations district at Place des Nations in Geneva and is characterized by differentiated architectural styles erected there over the years. The new Conference Hall, a predominantly opaque structure, presents itself slightly raised above the level of Place des Nations and opposite a row of villas. Despite its large volume and introverted appearance it is light and approachable. From its fulcrum arms cantilever out to create openings framing picturesque views, such as that of the Mont Blanc massif. The structure is placed like a sculpture between the two buildings, within the WIPO Garden.

The architects’ task for this project was to develop a harmonic and sculptural volume by exploiting the building regulations (distance between buildings, bay windows, offset of roof fascia) and applying them in a way that laymen wouldn’t recognize them as such. Furthermore, the new volume should be as high as possible to make sure that the breathtaking view is ideally captured from the upper floors.
Affordable Housing in Zurich for The Baechi Foundation
The Baechi Foundation contracted gus wüstemann architects to build a housing block in Zurich with a high living quality on a low budget.
Context
This housing project is a building of nine flats in the outer green belt of Albisrieden in the city of Zurich. The urban structure is characterized by simple linear buildings from the 1950s with generously sized gardens, which are arranged at right angles to one another. The new building is inside such a green area as part of the rising density within the city, a solitaire, in between the linear buildings.
The Baechi Foundation specifically asked for affordable housing with a great quality of living in the center of Zurich. Natural light, privacy and a spatial moment of generosity, were the focus of this project.
