Inwood Place in Austin, Texas by Tim Cuppett Architects

Friday, October 2nd, 2020

Article source: Tim Cuppett Architects

When Mid-Century enthusiasts purchased the original 1800sf home, it had long been forgotten about and was nearly re-claimed by the native vegetation of an adjacent creek.  The existing house, crammed against the far property line was dwarfed by an apartment complex visible to the rear.  It possessed the scale typical of mid-century homes but lacked expansion and contraction which makes for architectural drama.  Low ceilings and deep overhangs made for a relentlessly dark interior, further diminishing what little appeal remained of the property.

Spring Cypress Presbyterian Church in Texas by Charles Todd Helton Architect, Inc.

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020

Article source: Charles Todd Helton Architect, Inc.

A church that was in need of a facelift and a few additions. We changed the overall look of the campus, from an outdated split face cmu block look, to a more contemporary stucco and stone ‘shining beacon on the hill’ look and feel. I love the almost Greek Island feel it gets with the whites and the blue sky. We added a fellowship hall, various entrance porches, redesigned the sanctuary, and added a much needed set of new bathrooms (plus many other items as well). Loved the people I worked with there. Built in Spring, Texas.

Article source: Pei Cobb Freed & Partners Architects LLP

For its new headquarters in downtown Austin, the festival organizer South by Southwest (SXSW) sought an efficient, cutting-edge workplace with a unique image that would speak to the company’s collaborative culture. The building houses SXSW’s consolidated offices, with remaining office floors occupied by tenants with business and production relationships with the company. An ancillary goal of the project was to preserve a grove of heritage live oaks on the southern edge of the site.

Hill Country in Texas by Charles Todd Helton Architect

Wednesday, August 12th, 2020

Article source: Charles Todd Helton Architect

This is a 2,500 square foot contemporary Farmhouse, located in the Texas Hill Country. This project entailed two parts; part one was the demolition and removal of the existing house, and replacing it with this new residence, and the second part was simply renovating the existing detached garage, to make it match the new home. The house sits on the high point of rolling acreage, and one of the keys to our design was to maximize the views in both the front and back of the house.

Buda Mill & Grain Co. in Texas by Cushing Terrell

Wednesday, July 1st, 2020

Article source: Cushing Terrell

Once dotted with dilapidated metal sheds, silos, and a cotton gin dating to 1914, historic Buda Mill & Grain Co. in the Texas Hill Country is finding new life as a multifaceted, community-focused destination. Firmly entrenched in Buda’s history for over 100 years, the redeveloped site now offers more than 27,000 square feet of retail, restaurants, and community-oriented spaces that bring locals and visitors together within a vibrant setting. The complex is composed of five structures a mix of old and new including a renovated 105-year-old cotton gin building, a large, renovated steel equipment shed, a historic elevated grain augur, four vintage silos, and three new buildings. The challenge was how to preserve the bones of what was there while making the existing structures and new facilities a cohesive complex.

A 3,700 square foot, 2 story, ‘Miami’ style modern home – very modern and simple, but still has warmth to it. The stained wood porch ceilings provide a nice contrast to the white stucco exterior. Located in Houston, Texas.

The Bottling Dept. Food Hall in San Antonio, Texas by Clayton & Little

Saturday, May 2nd, 2020

Article source: Clayton & Little

Originally constructed in 1894, a devastating fire claimed the historic Pearl Bottling House in 2003. Pearl salvaged as much from the rubble as possible, and hired Clayton & Little to rebuild the 13,132-square foot-structure as a modern interpretation of a lost Classical Revival jewel that would serve as a venue for emerging chefs and culinary talent.

The Policello Residence in Houston, Texas by Charles Todd Helton Architect, Inc.

Thursday, April 9th, 2020

Article source: Charles Todd Helton Architect, Inc.

A Mediterranean contemporary residence that I designed for clients building in Houston. We wanted to keep the interior light and open, and go with a more minimalist scheme. On the 2nd floor, we did an entire apartment setup, so someone can live there independently if needed. The main public spaces all open up to each other, making the interior feel even larger. The pool is covered with a large screened-in lanai. The homeowners are happy, so I am happy, and it looks great inside and out.
