New Dance and Music Centre in The Hague, Netherlands by Zaha Hadid Architects

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

Article source: Zaha Hadid Architects

In sharp contrast to the basic rectangular geometry of its surroundings, our design proposes a structure punctuated by fluid horizontal louvres, which seem to move when graced by light and shade – issuing a playful invitation to enter – moving upwards to culminate in a gracious curving roof-line.

Avvan van Buerenplein in The Hague, The Netherlands by Wiel Arets Architects

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Article source: Wiel Arets Architects

The location of the Anna van Beuren tower will be the new Anna van Beuren square, located directly next to the Centraal Station of The Hague. The situation of the building, alongside the under construction Centraal Station, the recently complete ‘New Babylon’ housing and mixed use complex, and a large underground parking garage, will further serve to strengthen and unify this highly visible site in the center of the city. The tower will take the center place on this new square, incorporating student housing and various gastronomic and retail outlets, encouraging ‘interiority’.

We feel that a school should be like a small town, with streets, squares and houses. A town where one meets, learns, plays and discovers. A school as a town where children learn to peacefully coexist and grow.

The organizational and volumetric shape of the ICC responds to the unique programmatic demands so as to produce a strong public presence and recognition value. An apparent contradiction – an enigmatic building shell in which all people and information are completely secure – must be realized.
