Markthal Rotterdam in The Netherlands by MVRDV

Sunday, August 6th, 2017

Article source: MVRDV

The Market Hall is a sustainable combination of food, leisure, living and parking, fully integrated to celebrate and enhance the synergetic possibilities of the different functions. A secure, covered square emerges beneath an arc, conceived as an inversion of a typical market square and its surrounding buildings. During the day it serves as central market hall, after hours the hall becomes an enormous, covered, well lit public space.

Loud Shadows in Terschelling, The Netherlands by Plastique Fantastique

Sunday, July 9th, 2017

Article source: Plastique Fantastique

LOUD SHADOWS is a collage made by artists coming from different backgrounds: dance, music, architecture. The architecture of Plastique Fantastique is monumental, yet mobile, soft and transparent. It’s ephemeral skin influences the environment as much as its inner space offers a lucid view outwards. It is the preferred place to merge dance (LeineRoebana) and music (Kate Moore, The Stolz), and challenge the perception of time.

Circular Pavilion Abn Amro in Amsterdam, the Netherlands by de Architekten Cie.

Sunday, July 9th, 2017

Article source: de Architekten Cie.

The new ABN AMRO Pavilion is unique in the Netherlands: the first built example of a purely sustainable and circular design. The main thought behind circular design is that the impact of the building causes the least possible reduction of the world’s resources. The circular economy is waste-free and resilient and that is the exact idea behind this Pavilion. Right from the start the recyclability of all materials used were taken into account.

Cityforum & Public Library Tilburg in The Netherlands by CIVIC – TheCloudCollective

Wednesday, July 5th, 2017

Article source: CIVIC – TheCloudCollective

In the Tilburg railway zone, the construction of the LocHal took off this week. Within the contours of the monumental locomotive hall, CIVIC architects in collaboration with Braaksma & Roos Architecten and Inside Outside, designed a large public building. The project houses a public library, workspaces, conference rooms, exposition spaces, an art school, a glass music hall and an elevated foyer overlooking the city. The building adds a contemporary layer to the ancient typology of the library. It functions as a public space where visitors can read and lend books and other media but at the same time are stimulated to collectively share and develop new knowledge.

Article source: Shift architecture urbanism

The assignment called for a public building that transcends its function as a parking garage and whose representation fits its strategic position in the classically designed centre of Leidsche Rijn. We propose an understated icon that interprets the classic urban principles in a contemporary way and integrates new public uses in order to shape the civic space of the new centre.

In the village of Bussum, three sculptural apartment-villas stand amid the semi-public area between the Brinklaan and the district office building Gewestkantoor, another LEVS project from 2011. The villas form part of the Spoorzone Zuid, an urban plan by LEVS architecten, that stretches along both sides of one of the busiest railways in the Netherlands. In scale and measure, the villas fit in well with the surrounding environment, which dates back to the late 19th century.
