HOUSE OF PERTIJS – WATCHES AND JEWELLERY CONCEPT STORE
‘House of Pertijs’ has its roots in a traditional family-owned watch and jewellery store in the Dutch city of Breda, where clients were treated more like friends than customers. To create more customer flow, the owner of the store came up with a new vision: nowadays luxury is not merely about watches and jewellery, but also about lifestyle and its related high-end products. Why not combine these different product groups in one store? The idea of a watch and jewellery concept store was born.
The Anne van Bueren Square serves as the lobby for AvB Tower, where a hybrid programming of shops, lobby, restaurant, offices, lecture hall, and library – where the academic dweller finds a communicative atmosphere – when fluidly linked, can be seen as an extension of the ‘commuter-leisure’ concept currently emerging in the world’s major metropolises.
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdamwas designed in the late nineteenth century by Dutch architect Pieter Cuypers. The function of the building was twofold: one part was the national museum, the other the gateway to the south ofAmsterdam.
The central building of the Corporate Campus Apeldoorn, designed by ADP Architects, is the conference centre. The whole building is set up to stimulate interaction and communication.
As working in a green environment is the main concept of the campus the landscape literally continues in to the entrance hall of the conference building, so nature and architecture melt together in the heart of the campus. Standing in the tall entrance hall you can see the restaurant, and the 25 conference rooms located on different floors. The restaurant, seating 750 people, is spread out over different levels gradually stepping down towards the forest outside.

Located in the northern Dutch town of Den Helder, the project occupies a long site between two canals, the Helderskanaal and Werfkanaal where it looks out onto Den Helder’s fine Napoleonic naval yard. West 8’s masterplan for the scheme reflected the character, scale and diversity of the city fabric along each canal and provided for a range of size and cost of dwellings.
De Jacobsvlinder (Cinnabar) School, previously known as the Prins Bernhard School, is a part of the restructuring of the Palenstein neighbourhood, a quarter of Zoetermeer near the centre, built in the nineteen-sixties. Architecturally, the new school building forms the link between the urbanity of the Nieuw-Schoutenhoek housing complex currently under construction, and the small-scale character of the existing village of detached houses that directly adjoins the location.
In development area of Amstel III, situated on Amsterdam’s southeast side, Meibergdreef lane is currently being re-developed into an urban axis. This re-development constituted the catalyst for the construction of a four-star hotel, just across a present food strip. The hotel is located as closely as possible to the flanking highway A2. On approach from the south, the volume recognisably marks the entrance to Amsterdam.
Villa Al is a green villa in a green environment. This proposal emphasises the existing qualities and character of the location.
A meandering river through a green environment is translated into a meandering route through a green pavilion.
In a natural context also the electricity and heating are found in natural resources. A heat pump installation allows for heating from the soil. Electricity is captured by solar panels and from the water motion in the river.
