Powerhouse Company, in close collaboration with RAU, recently completed Villa L. Designed to fulfil the desires and needs of a young family, Villa L is set in the woods of central Netherlands, fully oriented towards the sun and the views on the garden. Villa L is a spatially diverse residence where every floor has its own strong identity, creating a broad spatial spectrum within a unified whole.

The program consists of a garage for 3 fire trucks, dressing rooms, workshops office and instructions areas and a cafeteria. The fire station is situated in a suburban area with mainly traditional housing. On the relatively small site a two floor building was designed with a cubic shape. The floor plans are very compact and functionally designed to support speedy action in case of fire and emergencies. One has to reach a calamity within 8 minutes. In contrast with the brick of the houses in the area the fire station was given a specific character expressing the professionalism of the fire brigade.
For an apartment in Rotterdam WHIM architecture designed a new interior. The design results in a more open floor plan and a higher efficiency in the use of the available volume. One of the new elements is a multifunctional closet, that has the same finishing as the floor. The work was completed at the end of January 2012.

The urban history of Utrecht and its surroundings dates back to the time of the Roman Empire. Today the area west of the city of Utrecht is being transformed from a mainly rural area into a new quarter of the city. Along one of the old routes with its variety of architectural typologies and close to a branche of the Rhine River this building, a practise for obstetricians, was build.
citizenM is a new Dutch hotel group that opens their first hotel at Schiphol Airport in the second quarter of 2008. The concept of the hotel is to cut out all hidden costs and remove all unnecessary items, in order to provide its guests a luxery feel for a budget price. The hotel exists of 215 rooms of 14 sq. m, all prefabricated produced in citizenM’s own factory and easy to transport. The rooms are stacked on a ground floor with a dynamic lobby / living-room space, creating rooms and F&B functions. Since citizenM believes a great bed and a simple and clean bathroom is all we need during a city or business trip, the design is focused on these items.
De Karel Doorman consists of the renovation of a shopping building: Ter Meulen and an added residential building. Restoration and new-build The new residential building is up to 70 metres in height and includes 114 apartments. It is built on top of the Ter
Meulen building in Rotterdam. This is an unusual project as the new building literally rests on the columns and foundations of the existing structure. The only additions are a pair of concrete lift shafts which also provide stability. The construction technique is unconventional for a project in the Netherlands, as the main structure is in steel instead of heavy stone-like materials as concrete and limestone.

The Walta-Elmers family commissioned VMX Architects to design their house on ‘Kleine Rieteiland’, one of the islands of IJburg. The client wanted a spacious, open house with plenty of light. The plot measures 8 by 30 metres. By studying several models, the concept of ‘woonlandschap’ (living-landscape) was chosen. The ground floor, containing the living and kitchen, in a split level typology, has the possibility to completely open to the outside and thereby create a partly covered living-landscape of 8 by 30 metres.
The municipality of Leiden was looking to replace the old sports facilities in Leiden with a new complex which would separate the youth football association from the Leiden sports company. The position and footprint of the pavilions was predetermined by Buro Sant and Co who were responsible for the urban design.
The design on the east side of Havixhorst has several specializations received. This is also the facade that the first and lasting impression on the unsuspecting careless or even architecture interested passerby will leave. Listed façade has been given a subtle nod which lays the foundation for further morphological development of the property as we will see later. For specification of the entrance is locally a bite out of the volume taken as a welcoming gesture. Moreover, here you are protected against all kinds of meteorological events.
