Dutch firm Shift A+U is the winner of a first prize, two second prizes and a third prize in the competition for an eco retail development, the Groene Kamer, in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
The aim of the development is to create a new type of country estate where eco-retail, nature and recreation are brought together in an innovative way. A place where city and countryside meet, both physically and programmatically.
In the area Hatert, on the edge of the city of Nijmegen, the housing corporations Portaal and Talis organize a great renewal operation. Most of the current housing does not comply with contemporary standards or needs a substantial make over.
For this operation the city of Nijmegen worked in cooperation with the office of Khandekar towards a masterplan in which most of the present houses are renovated or renewed. Besides this upgrading, the open areas in the neighbourhood will be filled with several new housing projects.
Villa Veth is a modern, customized villa, a private residence for a family of four. It is situated on a large parcel of land by a forest near the idyllic town of Hattem in the eastern part of the Netherlands.
The driveway on the entrance side leads to a carport situated below the house. This places the cars out of sight and gives the impression of the house partially hovering. It is a simple architectural approach with a great visual effect. The house looks sleek and abstract on the outside, but has a warm and cozy interior.

Sprikk designed a new working environment for consulting agency YNNO. YNNO advises on innovative methods of working and the environments that support these. Their expertise follows the conceptions of the “new ways of working”. As their best reference sprikk planned the office that embodies these notions. Since their consultants spend more time at their client’s than in the office, YNNO asked for a workplace that functions as a home base rather than a conventional office.
Commissioned by the Province of Friesland, and in conjunction with Achterbosch Architecture under the combined name of OAK, Onix has developed a road bridge that connects 2 districts of Sneek on either side of the A7 motorway. The bridge was designed for a municipality that wished to establish a new city marker along the motorway.
Close to the city centre of Groningen the allotment gardens of Tuinwijck are situated. This green oasis between the railway track and the Helperzoom offers the inhabitants of the city a low budget possibility to create the most eccentric gardens. It is an ecological allotment garden where the elderly as well as children, artists and so on can enjoy their time.
The ‘Toneelschuur’ in Haarlem is a trend-setting firm for the Dutch theatre, dance and movie industries. Each year prominent international theatre and modern dance companies perform in the two theatre halls. The latest movies can be seen in the cinema. Commissioned by the Toneelschuur, cartoonist Joost Swarte made a sketch design for ‘a new home for the Toneelschuur’. This sketch design was a study of the possibilities for moving the theatre to a new location in the intricate fabric of the historical centre of Haarlem. In the design the different functions of the theatre complex are located in different building parts. The new building is dominated by an inclined glass front. This glass wall separates the building from the city, simultaneously creating a mutual connection. Mecanoo developed the sketch design for the new Toneelschuur in collaboration with Joost Swarte.
Program: Theatre in the city centre of Haarlem with 2 theatre halls, 2 cinemas, a foyer, offices, technical space and a loading bay of 5,400 m² total floor area. Design in collaboration with Joost Swarte.

PROGRAM: 3 bedrooms, each, with their own private bathroom, one bedroom with its own private bathroom accessible from the exterior of the house, a study/TV room also with its own full bath to allow for future conversion into bedroom, living room, dining- room, kitchen , one car garage, a pool, spa and dock for boats and jet skis.
The West Brabant Water Line is a defense-line consisting of a series of fortresses and cities with inundation areas in the south-west of the Netherlands. It dates from the 17th century but fell into disrepair in the 19th century. When the water line was finally restored, an access bridge across the the moat of one of the fortresses, Fort de Roovere, was needed. This fort now has a new, recreational function and lies on several routes for cycling and hiking.

Borneo-Sporenburg, a former harbour area along the shores of the IJ near Amsterdam’s inner city is intended to resemble in its density the Jordaan, a lively Amsterdam inner city quarter. The developers, however, requested a suburban programme from the municipality. This was granted on the condition that the required density of 100 dwellings per hectare would be achieved. To achieve this urban concentration in a suburban programme, Adriaan Geuze of West 8 introduced a fresh typology: inspired by the surrounding water, he created a sea of low-rise buildings, given rhythm by the variation of blocks and open spaces.
