As proud owners of two Jaguar models the clients asked Amsterdam based architecture office Bureau Fraai to design a garage to safely store them, preferably showcasing their favourite model so that they could enjoy this beauty to the fullest. The architects came up with the concept of a private showroom in their backyard visible from the main house. The showroom is designed as a distinct black volume in which the two Jaguars are stacked using an automatic car lift. The large steel plate framed window frames the client’s favourite model as if it were a painting; a ‘painting’ to be enjoyed from within their own living room. The characteristic design of the showroom is enhanced by integrating a custom designed grill with Jaguar logo referring to classical models from the car brand’s history.
On the Hembrug terrain in Zaandam, an area of 42,5 hectares, a monumental industrial site has been transformed by Studio Modijefsky into the home and studio of an artist couple.
The substantial volume of this building full of potential has been wisely divided into two levels, therefore allowing to accommodate different functions: an office and a workshop on the ground floor, a gallery space and a home on the first floor. The two floors are connected by two sculptural staircases, one of which leads to the home through the kitchen, the other one brings visitors from the workshop to the gallery space.
Zuidplein Theatre is the new cultural hotspot of Rotterdam-Zuid. A new theatre building replaces the adjacent existing 1953 structure, housing two auditoriums, a café/restaurant and a branch of the Rotterdam Library. Designed by De Zwarte Hond, Zuidplein Theatre is developed and realised as a Design/Build/Maintain project by Heijmans and Ballast Nedam.
Mid July 2019 recreational park Qurios Zandvoort opened its doors. The park is situated between the Formula 1 track, the national park Kennemerland and the beach of the town of Zandvoort. It’s also conveniently close to the cities of Haarlem and Amsterdam. Because of its unique location the park will attract a very diverse group of guests. From city dwellers to beachgoers and from nature lovers to race fanatics. For the design of the park this meant that it couldn’t be a ‘1 size fits all’ concept and should be able to accommodate this diverse group of guests. The architecture of the park plays a key role in giving meaning and expression to this diversity.
The park accommodates 100 cottages and 2 public pavilions and is designed like a dune park where the sand literally flows against the building. The cottages are situated on plateaus on different heights and all have a different orientation. This creates different atmospheres, sight lines and spatial experiences throughout the compact designed park.
Building D(emountable) is a modern, sustainable and fully demountable structure on the site of a historic, monumental building complex in the center of Dutch city Delft. This site is owned by cepezed, an agency with expertise in the development, the design and the realization of buildings.
Creative cluster
cepezed acquired the complex with former laboratories from Delft University of Technology in 2012. It transformed the monumental buildings into a creative cluster with housing for various companies in the creative sector, including the office itself. However, the only non-monumental building on the site was in poor condition. It has now made way for the new construction of Building D(emountable). Again, this is a full-blown own development of cepezed and again it is intended for companies in the knowledge-intensive creative industry. It houses a the app and website developer 9to5 software and a game developer Triumph Studios.
Former factory building is transformed into plug and play office by implementing an enlarged wooden furniture piece.
The Becelhuis is part of the characteristic factory complex on the former Unilever premises located on the southbank of the river Maas in Rotterdam. In 1930 the Becelhuis was added to the site with spaces for production, offices, storage and management rooms. In 2017 the margarine and spreads department demerged from Unilever and continued as an independent global company named Upfield.

In Utrecht, the fourth largest city in the Netherlands, an entire island development is dedicated to the theme of the cube.
Kubus-Eiland describes the urban planning principle that was used in the conversion of a former port area along the Leidse Rijn area and which is shaping the transformation of this urban development project from a former industrial area to a residential area.
Kinderijk is the prime example of a Dutch windmill landscape. In 1997, the landscape’s ensemble of mills and pumping stations was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site. Suddenly Kinderdijk was overrun by busloads of tourists turning the area into a logistical nightmare. The entrance area was turned into a parking lot for tourbuses, the little ramshackle iceskating clubhouse was converted into a provisional souvenir shop and the narrow quays filled up with rows of potable toilet cabins. Overnight the windmills had disappeared behind a wall of clutter.
Today, the area is accessed by a sequence of strategically positioned bridges, paths and visitor facilities. The buses are banned to the stop & go on the edge of the area. Instead of the clubhouse, the new Visitor Center is positioned half on water and land restoring the long visual line running along the quay. The Visitor Center’s clever design unbundles the different visitor flows and its subtle architectural language restores the landscape’s identity. Again, as in the early nineties, the windmills – the icons of Kinderdijk – can be seen on arrival.
Rush and reflection are the two contradictory vital elements on which Namelok has based the entire design of the museum cafe in the Anne Frank House. Of course, we were inspired by the place’s history: especially the post-war period in which the desire for rapid improvement was in contrast to the pure fellowship. This paradox has not only functioned as our core design concept, but also in facilitating the visitors of the Anne Frank House.
An office floor on the 18th floor in newly built WTC with large panoramic windows and a phenomenal view over the city of Utrecht.
