House H in Toblach, Italy by Plasma Studio

Article source: Plasma Studio

The building stands in the borough of Santa Maria, place of pilgrimage near Dobbiaco. At the edge of the village, the site consists of a slope towards South, facing the sun and the Dolomites.

The idea of the project was developed starting from the restrictions imposed by legislation, such as minimized building surface and the requirement of a pitched roof parallel to the slope. The final volume and the concept of the whole project is the result of a subtraction process. Starting with the maximum volume (as derived from given height and surface) certain parts of the volume were substracted to create specific functions; a covered space for parking, balconies protected from the weather, and the terraces in the attic level which introduce light into the house.

The interior of this family home is characterized by 360-degree views. Perhaps the most spectacular of these being a view of the sky through an incision over the central stair. This opening delivers an immediate reading of exterior weather conditions, collecting precipitation and receiving direct sunlight.

A generous single family home in Toblach, South Tyrol / Italy. The basic characteristics of this building are the staggering of the different volumes and the central courtyard. Thanks to this concept it is possible to guide light into parts of the basement, where the fitness and wellnes area is located. The ground floor houses the entrance area, a work room, and a spacious living space oriented towards the atrium, with a lowered level couch area. The kitchen and dining area, staggered on a higher level, can be reached by a wide staircase, a true design element. Another half floor up, there are the bedrooms of the building, as well as a small apartment, also accessible via an external staircase. At the top level is the master bedroom with an open bathroom and a dressing room.
