This residence, consisting of a design office and a master bedroom, is the result of renovating a barn which used to store farming equipment, a barn located in the rural area about an hour’s drive from Tokyo. The barn with the height of 4 m. was transformed into a loft which had two levels–the first for the meeting room and the second for the office. The lattice windows welcome the trees of the forest into the building, ushering in tranquility. The old doors of the barn have been given a new life to provide an accent for the space.
2014 spring – emmanuelle has created an installation for the launch of UNIQLO’s spring item, “LINEN”. Linen’s breathable and cool feelings, its soft and supple texture, were expressed in the installation as the colorful and refreshing spring breeze.
This is a rebuilding plan for a long-established eel restaurant that has been in business for 85 years in downtown Tokyo. Due to a full-scale road expansion plan, the owner was obliged to reduce the site area. The owner decided to welcome the 100 year anniversary of the restaurant in a renewed shop and planned an RC structured shop with residence.
This is a house for a single person, built in a quiet residential area in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. The exterior walls use dark brown Galvalume steel in a length-wise, lateral direction, in order to blend into the atmosphere of fleshpots surrounded with black board fences. Galvanized steel sheets are used for exterior walls next to the entrance and around the garage. By using a combination of different steel sheets, a playful contrast is created.
The original house was built 37 years ago with a mixed structure; steel on the ground floor and timber on the first floor. Since its original construction in 1977, the site around the house has dramatically changed. The two-story house is now surrounded by 7-9 story buildings in an area known as the “Urban Village“, which lies between Yamate-Dori and Megro River – a three minute walk from Fudomae Metro Station in Tokyo.

The small site is located in a typical Tokyo urban residential area, where houses are closely built up. A pursuit of internal spaces in this house, as a result, changes the Tokyo cityscape a little.
This house sits at the tiny corner lot, while facing the tree-lined ginkgo.
Around this dwelling area of the small city block and the narrow road, the human scale that offers friendly atmosphere to the pedestrian from the old days is kept, also thanks to the tree-lined ginkgo.
The multi brand and shared areas for the women’s clothing floor on the third floor of the Seibu department store in Tokyo’s Shibuya. The ‘contemporary luxury’ floor presents multiple brands together in a unified environment, but each brand needs to be gently distinguished from the others.
We performed the interior design for a restaurant/bar in a long and narrow cave-like setting where dynamic ridges and furrows form luminous vicissitudes that artfully create a space enfolded in a brilliant burst of light.
This three-story residence is designed to function not only as a house but as a guesthouse that occasionally accommodates foreign guests and exchange students. It is made of concrete using wood formworks composed of 40mm-wide cedar. The authentic and solid materiality of concrete is contrasted by sharp stainless steel louvers covering the second floor window, and this facade gives a touch of elegance to the streetscape of the neighborhood. Louvers effectively provide security and privacy at the same time.
