The project consists of two buildings, an archery hall and a boxing club, standing a few hundred meters apart on the grounds of Kogakuin University in west Tokyo.
The formal rituals of Kyudo (Japanese archery) and the very physical nature of boxing may appear worlds apart. However, surprisingly, the two built facilities share a number of commonalities.
The site is a narrow L shaped site that is located on Tokyo’s typical dwelling environment would be surrounded by the buildings around.
The client maked a request good balance of privacy and openness to us.
We created internal areas and terraces on skip floors, and linked these areas in a loop around the central void, while concealing from surrounding neighbors by the wall that is along site boundary.
A client for a house, of which I designed and supervised eight years ago, got married and bought a small lot near Tokyo Skytree, which is located in a place with a downtown atmosphere. Due to difficulty of construction within the small narrow site at the end of a narrow path, a wooden construction was chosen. Soft, dark brown Galvanized steel exterior walls create a Japanese impression, and the house naturally blends into the old neighborhood. By using glass walls on the street side, indoor views include the surrounding environment.
This architecture consists of a second house with garage and two studio-type apartment units for rent. Our client asked me to design architecture similar to “Reflection of Mineral” that we completed in 2006. Therefore basic concepts of ‘Mineral’ are taken into consideration. And in order to further evolve from our previous design we focus on the following three issues: (1) Form should be carefully considered in order to protect white walls from dirt from rainwater. (2) Design and detailing of large skylight (3) Selection of materials to minimize cost.
The client is a developer company. It purchased a long-sought after lot in Ginza, and planned to build a commercial office building.
The building site is on the Ginza 1-chome Gaslight Street, which is one street behind the Ginza Central Street.
It is on the back side of the Mizuho Bank and Pola Ginza buildings on the Central Street. The atmosphere is quite different from the gorgeous Central Street, and the site is on an empty street which is often seen behind the street with large-sized buildings.
Attracting as many people as possible into such a street is our task. The client desired the building to be a gorgeous existence.
Many buildings stand side by side in the shopping district near the train station. There were many partitioned tenement-houses in this area, but currently rebuilding has been proceeding. There is a platform of the conventional lines on the north side of the site. And there is a municipal road that is parallel to the line on the south side of the site. This is a narrow site is surrounded by buildings which was built to site boundary close, on the east and west side. We designed the building in this narrow site.
A renewal project for the showroom that specializes in the garden furniture of the largest space in Japan. The supervision of the interior design was under the charge of the msd-office, represented by the architect – designer, Tadafumi Masuda.
The showroom is situated in Omotesando, the finest location in Tokyo with the flagship stores of the top-ranking brands lining the streets. More than 100 items of garden furniture are on display in a space of 200 square meters.
