METU RESEARCH CENTER in Turkey by Emre Arolat Architects

Thursday, September 11th, 2014

Article source: Emre Arolat Architects

METU – Middle East Technical University is one of the oldest, largest and internationally successful universities in Turkey that is also assertive in scientific, technological and innovative developments. The vision of being “research loaded university” is supported by the investments done to related buildings and strategic supportive programs that have increased the performances in improvements. There are 23 research and application centers in METU by 2011.The project was developed to fulfill the requirements of  the New Research Center that would combine all of these 23 research units at a centrum. The project would increase the interaction between the educational buildings and the technopark just on the other side and at the same time should behave as a social gathering place for the students and the academicians. In this sense it has an atrium like generator space, just in the middle that behaves as the gathering place and that is not climatized creating its own ecology with its semi-closed atmosphere and advanced landscape, serving for the interaction between researchers of various disciplines, instructors, students etc.

Yalıkavak Palmarina in Bodrum, Turkey by Emre Arolat Architects

Wednesday, September 10th, 2014

Article source: Emre Arolat Architects

Yalıkavak is one of the lagoons on the southwestern coast of Turkey, which is becoming a popular destination for blue voyages along the Turkish Riviera. Unlike its provincial center Bodrum, which has faced a building boom in 1980s with the increase of touristic activities, Yalikavak is still a relatively calm, smaller scale settlement with its natural landscape.

Article source: Emre Arolat Architects

Istanbul Bilgi University seeked for the renovation of Silahtaraga Power Plant, a typical modern industrial setting formed between 1910′s and 1950′s, to be transformed into a museum, recreational and educational center. This institution covers a site of 107.000 m², between the rivers Alibeykoy and Kagithane, at the end of Golden Horn that had been the center and main scene of Istanbul for many centuries, that had been discredited and become worn from the end of 19th century to 1990’s and that has started to glare once again with many projects after being rediscovered in last 15 years.

The refurbishment of the Besiktas Fish Market is not a design and realization process that was prosecuted in an accustomed manner. It is not intended to be carried through to an in-computable state. On the contrary, the aspiration is to initiate a dynamic outset by the gradual functional supplements and substitutions and even with the immediate effects of artistic approaches.

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014

Article source: BKA / Bahadır Kul Architects

The main design decisions of Antalya Aquarium project are determined with desire of vanishing in silhouette and creating harmony with topography. Pulling back of the ground floor, a shaded public area is created to beware from sun and profit from wind.  This shaded public area is the point of approach, gather and diffusion of the aquarium project. Also the shell of this area determines the information and fast-food areas, amphitheater and box office with its curves and waves.

ICE RING in Kayseri, Turkey by BKA / Bahadır Kul Architects

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014

Article source:  BKA / Bahadır Kul Architects

Kayseri Ice Ring is placed 9 km far away from the city center and inside the 10.000 square meters site. With the transportation facilities like car, minibus, bus and railway system; the Ice Ring has the chance to make citizens life more sportive. When designing the form of the building, the relation between the ice and the air comes into the mind. Besides, by the meaning of ice, global warming in our today’s world has the consideration for the citizens. For the changing climates, the less green and our apathetic stands can be more conscious in this way.
