In this brief, approximately 350 square meters of the 1,600 square meters was allocated as “The Village Square”. This area was explained as the founders and employees are in the same place without any hierarchy in the startup spirit. The competition process ran for 1 month, videos and visualizations were also presented. Especially the progressive ideas behind “The Village Square” was set forth by URBANJOBS. After winning the competition, the design process was launched.

Lagranja Design and its second ¨The Populist¨ in Istanbul
Lagranja Design was commissioned to design the second ¨The Populist¨ restaurant, located in Bebek, a sophisticated neighborhood of Istanbul. In the meantime, the first ¨The Populist¨ became one of the most frequented leisure facilities of the Turkish Capital.
Two years ago, Lagranja design studio in Barcelona undertook an ambitious project in Istanbul. The challenge consisted in the conversion of Turkey’s first beer company into a modern brewery with an industrial overall look, inspired by the graphic language of the Prohibition period. The result was ¨The Populist¨, located in the Bomonti area, restaurant acclaimed by ¨Time Out¨ as the best place to be in Istanbul.
Lagranja Design now completed the second restaurant for the same brand. This time, the project of the second ¨The Populist¨ had some distinct spatial characteristics that demanded new ideas and solutions, therefore it could not just adapt to the design. The new ¨The Populist¨ is located in the former space of a garden villa, in Bebek, a wealthy neighborhood on the Bosphorus strait.

The Citlik tree that inhabits the site and also gives its name to the town is a symbolic tree in this region. According to the mythology, whoever eats the fruit of the tree will be unable to leave the area. The owners could feel the history lure them to this spot, and unable to venture away, decided to build their home.
Client desired the juxtaposition between simple and timeless, transparent and private all at an affordable rate. They wanted to build a life that was not restrained inside the home. As a botanist, the owner desired a home where her design concept extended out beyond the home and into the natural landscape. Her partner is an off-road motorbike rider and founder of a channel for enduro. They both wanted their home to reflect both their emotional and professional connection to the environment. These philosophical parameters inspired the design process.
