Troy Museum Competition Proposal in Çanakkale, UK by iki Architect

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Article source: iki

The habit for arranging the worshipping area with Qibla direction was continued to be organized in a square form. The surrounding for this square form should be a transparent “Glass Lantern”. So that an idea emerged to create a “glass prism” where the carrying blocks and surfaces are formed by the same material in which  the worshipping area will have an visual quality of the highest degree between the exterior day light and the worshipping area. In order to capture strong mystical ambiance, all the verses of the Quran were stamped on the transparent walls and ceiling surfaces.

In South Devon, between the resorts of Salcombe and Hallsands, lies a landscape of rolling hills, wooded river valleys, patchwork fields and small stone villages. East Beach Café in Littlehampton, UK by Heatherwick Studio

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

Article source: Heatherwick Studio

Heatherwick Studio was commissioned to design a new café building, capable of seating 60 people; to replace a seafront ice cream kiosk in Littlehampton, a traditional seaside town on England’s south coast. Exposed to weather and vandalism, the narrow site sits between the sea and a parade of houses. The studio saw its challenge as being to produce a long, thin building without flat, two-dimensional façades. The building is sliced diagonally into ribbons which wrap up and over the building, forming a layered protective shell, open to the sea in front.

London floating exhibition gallery in UK by OFL architecture + fueralab

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Article source: OFL architecture + fueralab

The concept design for the floating gallery on the River Thames comes from a single moment, an inspiration, hence, a re-discovery and re-interpretation of a landscape.  We strongly believe that contemporary architecture, clearly influenced by time and politics and socio-political issues, needs to also maintain a direct dialogue with nature.  A dialogue not only understood as literal interpretation but subjective definition, a metamorphosis of form and meaning.  We propose to base our design concept on a topography, a cut, a landscape; reinterpreting the idea of fluidity, whether in a liquid stage or a fixed ‘frozen’ surface.

Water is our inspiration. Water is life, breath, power, and above all things, beauty. The floating gallery takes all these elements, proposing a fluid exhibition space for recreational uses and contemplation; a city landmark… a landscape.
