Mathematics: The Winton Gallery in London, UK by Zaha Hadid Architects

Thursday, January 5th, 2017

Article source: Zaha Hadid Architects

It is a wonderful coincidence that we started work designing the Science Museum’s Mathematics Gallery in the bicentennial year of the birth of Ada Lovelace, a pioneering woman in the history of computers and of ‘poetic science’. Her inspirational influence on our approach to the design of the project, from inception to completion, cannot be overstated. Just as her Notes unravelled the abstract world of the analytical engine and its logic to generations beyond, we hope the design of the Mathematics Gallery complements the curatorial ambitions to inspire and engage further generations with the instinctive and physical aspects of mathematics. Collections like those housed within the Science Museum in London are instrumental in allowing the human mind to explore the many dimensions of innovation. The new group of objects on display in the Gallery is meticulously curated to narrate seemingly everyday moments in innovation driven by mathematics.

Tuesday, October 4th, 2016

Article source: Norm Architects

Situated on the border of a working farm in Suffolk (UK), the Reydon Grove Farm has been designed as a long and narrow flat roofed pavillon, to give the building a sufficient magnitude and scale to correspond sizes of the existing barn and the old dairies on the site.

Use

It is proposed to use the site for a single bungalow that will be sited in the north east corner of the site that is well screened from the wind by the trees towards the east, separating the farm site from the meadows.

The Bromptons in London, UK by Roselind Wilson Design

Friday, September 30th, 2016

Article source: Roselind Wilson Design

Roselind Wilson Design was appointed to refurbish, including interior architecture, interior design and project manage a 2209 square foot, three-bedroom, three-bathroom duplex apartment on the second and third floors of The Bromptons. The brief was to transform the existing apartment into a secondary residence for the client. Marrying the exquisite architectural detail with the interior architecture of the apartment, we ensured it was up to date in terms of technology, whilst clearly reflecting the personality of the client in order to create a space that felt unequivocally like a home away from home.

Meadowcroft in Hampshire, UK by OB Architecture

Wednesday, August 10th, 2016

Article source: OB Architecture

The brief required a large contemporary family house that would take advantage of the lovely views over the fields and the Solent beyond.

The site lies within an Area of Special Character that is made up of predominantly traditional pitched roof houses, so the design of the new house had to mediate between the clients’ desire for a contemporary house and the planners’ requirements for a pitched roof form. The design also had to appear modest from the front to respect the 2-storey properties either side.

Article source: David Nossiter Architects

The site, situated on the Essex/Suffolk borders within the landscape immortalised by Constable was originally the home farm of the nearby Assington Hall Estate, destroyed by fire in the 1950s. It consists of a collection of farm buildings forming a courtyard. The centrepiece of the site with views over the rural landscape is a large barn of cathedral-like proportions.
