Container Hotel in Crimea, Ukraine by ZA Architects

Sunday, December 9th, 2012

Article source: ZA Architects

The main idea of the project is to create a flexible and multi-purpose solution for small and medium-sized hotel business. Here we suggest a modular structrure which can be easily  implemeted throughout Ukraine. If some changes in the insulation parameteres of certain details and in the layout of the hall should be made, this design can be realized in  other climates as well. In terms of structure, the hotel represents a construction kit on the basis of pre-fabricated units, such as “Containex”, which have the dimensions and technical specifications of maritime shipping containers.

Olympic Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine by gmp Architekten

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Article source: gmp Architekten

On the occasion of the UEFA European Football Championships in 2012, which Ukraine is staging jointly with Poland, the rebuilding of the Olympic Stadium for the final game has been realized.

The new design for the reconstruction of the stadium respects the historic fabric with its important filigree prestressed concrete upper tier built in 1968, the frame of the new roof structure being detached and placed clear of the existing bowl. This most distinctive feature is therefore being encased in a new filigree glass façade and will be duly illuminated with appropriate lighting.

Article source: za bor architects

Yandex, the largest Russian IT company has recently opened its new office in Odessa, Ukraine. It is located on the 8th floor of ‘Morskoy-2’ business center. A 1760 sq. m. office is arranged around a light shelf and is tailored for 122 workplaces. Close to the atrium are the spaces, with no need for intensive lighting — meeting rooms, lecture hall and other premises, which are not used on a regular basis. Work areas are open-space and are mainly located along the windows. The windows, by the way, are facing the Black Sea and the picturesque port of Odessa. There are just several separated premises here: coffee-point, meeting rooms, canteen, and the sports zone, with table tennis, foosball, cardio-vascular machines and gymnastic accessories.

Working on the Project we tried to prove to client and to ourselves that concrete could be warm, wood could be smooth and metal could be soft. The project itself was a top floor 3-level penthouse with total space of 380sq.m., located in the heart of Kyiv on a Dnieperriver. Third floor of the apartment comprised an open terrace facing Kyiv left bank panorama on a south-east with total space of 250sq.m.

Skrybicus in Kiev, Ukraine by Makhno design

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

Article source: Makhno design

Game without rules

The most rewarding for a designer is – to make home for himself. What you will create, there you will live. Without censorship.

Sergei Makhno had left the workshop, where he both lived and worked (see Archidea, September 2009), and with his wife Vlada, for cases exclusively creative, moved here, in his new \”Parisian\” apartment. The apartment, actually, is in Kiev – but only geographically. Light negligence with which paintings are placed – hung, a bold combination of colors, the French panels, and uncovered artistry in the pseudo-classic’s entourage – immediately evoke images of the bohemian studios of Latin Quarter. However, to break stereotypes – is Makhno style. It is time to discard all complex and simply accept – in Ukraine we can do even more interesting and brighter design. Playing with textures, materials and color in his projects, Sergei constantly breaks the rules – he can put parquetry on the walls, or make «Tetris» game on the ceiling, from ordinary fluorescent lamps.

Revitalization of the Chernobyl zone in Ukraine by Arina Ageeva

Saturday, November 5th, 2011

Article source: Arina Ageeva

Introduction
The majority of people have an extremely negative idea about the exclusion zone around Chernobyl nuclear power plant, though quite a big part of this territory does not pose any radioactive hazard. Paradoxically, the absence of human activity created favorable conditions for animals and plants. For example, two Przewalski’s horses (which are in the red list of endangered species), after they had been places in the zone, bred actively and now they are 40. At the moment the territory is practically uninhabited, with the exception of few scientists, people who refused to leave their homes (their average age is around 60), and tourists.

23 Parks in Kiev, Ukraine by Maxwan

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

Article source: Maxwan

This project sets out not to create one park, but many great parks. Given the shear scale of the project the idea is not to create a singular grand vision, but to create a framework for thinking about the idea of a park that is intrinsically related to how to successfully implement the park over time. In reality, most parks are composed of a series of separate spaces that are somehow bound together. This design embraces that reality and showcases it. This diverse set of spaces combined with the four binding elements, shown raw, gives the park its distinct identity.
