This project develops over a preexistence which was consolidated in different stages and dispersed forms.
The strategy of requialifying the existence and adding new areas gave sense to great part of the operations. The result of them define the final architecture; a sum of volumes which belong to different moments and different programs.
The project does not try to impose or merge, and marks an abstract, honest, architectural form of finished materiality with the concrete made rock. It takes part in the landscape, respecting it, trying to be of importance to the site. The project is solved in two pieces that articulate in the landscape; the inn that hangs of the rock and emerges towards the cliff and the other volume, with the public restrooms and picnic area, receiving to the arrivals of automobiles. The skin concrete structure generates the limits and hard edges of the work, generating the structure composition of the project.
A good friend calls us to design a small hotel, 4 or 6 rooms on the hills of Lavalleja, Uruguay. The area is very well known for its spiritual tourism, as it is a very energetic place.
Visit to the area
there is definitely something very special about the energy of the hill: it is quite inaccessible, it is covered by low native vegetation. There are formations belonging to the earliest inhabitants of the place and archeological remains difficult to date. The views from up there are breathtaking. Our friend and his family are in love with the place, we feel incredibly motivated and challenged by the task.
A semi-open space that hosts social activities and also provides services of food court with barbecue, kitchen, bar and restrooms. The architectonic language dialogue with the existing elements on the site and with nature, a place to enjoy outdoors but sheltered from the wind and rain.
Following a simple idea, Martin Gomez designed this house for a couple of young Americans, financiers and lovers of Punta del Este. They asked for advice on finding a good land and ordered the design of a single house, which should be easy to maintain and should have three bedrooms. The home should be in harmony with the environment.
