The home designed by Rubén Muedra Estudio de Arquitectura is located in a small inner town of 1,000 inhabitants, to the south of Valencia, with a natural environment of great interest that gives rise to spectacular views from the house in medium and long distance.
The project is defined by two pure prismatic volumes, of different height, that as a response to the program of needs, and rotated among themselves 90 degrees, give rise to a large external patio on which the house overturns, and a double interior height that articulates the two floors. In response to the two white prisms, the exterior enclosure in anthracite gray, limits the private outdoor space, and gives privacy to the interior program of the ground floor.
Casa Carmela Restaurant. “Since 1922 by firewood”.
Back in the 20s, the great-grandfather of the current manager of this family restaurant of traditional food, went every summer to the Valencian garden for serving to the Madrid tourists who came to the mediterrranean coast. Casa Carmela began as a barrack serving as a changing room for bathers on Malvarrosa Beach.
It was in 1922 when the company was registered with the name os his wife, Carmen. Over the time, the small business was growing, giving shelter and food to the gests of the mediterranean.
Located on the first floor of the restaurant Racó de L’Aranau, our project is based on the need to gain more space as a starting point to provoke a transition towards a more sober, reasonable and simpler aesthetic that put an emphasis on the restaurant’s cuisine which is based on the quality of its products and the Valencian tradition.
After studying the characteristics of the premises, the project of the new dining area poses the challenge of controlling a great quantity of natural light and succeeding in transmitting a sense of serenity and comfort through the different areas that lead you there.
The objective of the proposal is to design a building that aspires to have the ability to go through time and not become obsolete, adapting to physical conditions and making the most of them in order to present the situation in an innovative way.
The building is configured as a Kouros that guards the access to the city. In the composition of its façade, the building shows the passage of time and as if it were different strata, the heights that have defined the different types of the city are shown.

The studio of Jose Barea Arquitectos has been selected to completely renew the image of the Maremar restaurant, located on the Pinedo promenade. We are in an environment in which the sea is the protagonist and this has been the starting point in the design of the project. It is proposed a space full of maritime connotations that convey to the client the essence of the environment in which they are located.
The architecture practice Jose Barea Arquitectos has been selected to refurbish a house located in a town closed to Valencia city, Spain. The briefing consisted on creating an atmosphere that would remind the client trips around the world, a place where unique pieces of furniture from India, Morocco, China, Mongolia and other countries would be protagonists.
This project tries to adapt the distribution of an old flat located in emblematic Ruzafa neighborhood, located in the centre of Valencia, to the needs of a young audiovisual artist, whose sensitivity and concerns have marked the journey and result of this assignment.
The design strategy starts from the premise of maximizing the diaphanous space of the house, providing flexibility and spaciousness to the most prominent spaces of the house. For this, the storage cores and facilities have been moved to the medians, except for the bedroom closet, whose location allows us to separate rooms and the appearance of a small distributor, which connects with the rest of the rooms.
The beginnings of this project are quite clear, it means taking a step forward and thinking about the future, initially it will be for a single person, with prospects that with the passage of time may increase the number of occupants, as well as the use of the living place.
The premise and complexity when we started to distribute the spaces was to fit the program in 56m2, maintaining the sense of spaciousness. Therefore, we came to the conclusion that the most logical option was to let ourselves be guided by the chamfered geometry of the plant and by the structural lines of the building, following this thoughts, the final solution was simple and appropriate way to the building, where everything was going to it´s place in a natural way.
A glance over this place shows us a C-shaped space, which fits the proposed program. It is a small office dedicated to customer service. The rectangular floor plan, to which the communication core of the residential building in which it is located is subtracted, distributes the space in a large corridor attached to the dividing wall and two rooms.

The first steps in to begin this project start from the strict decision of dividing the space with the greatest possible symmetry by placing the staircase as the organizing core of the space, in the center of the house, making everything turn around it .
This decision allows us to generate a flexible way to live the house and a visual connection between the different rooms, which are clearly defined in their space and at the same time strongly related to each other, since at all times twe have tried the house have the most diaphanous space possible..
