Casa Aglae is our proposal for a weekend house in Santo Domingo, a coastal area located 120 km. from Santiago.
The strong winds that predominate in the summer from the west, made us raise the house in parallel to the length of the land, in east-west direction, forming an interior courtyard protected as the predominant area of the house.
Refuge for a mountaineer. The commission consisted of a roof, a kitchen, a bathroom and one room. The necessary to start at dawn the route traced the day before.
The proposal consists in constructing through planes and angles a cover that in its folds allows the entrance and in its cuts the exterior views.
The project involved the rehabilitation of a former boarding school built in the late nineteenth century, in the area of Cerro Alegre in Valparaíso. In a slope and with access to two pedestrian streets, the building is located above the Dimalow promenade overlooking it with its main facade while releasing a backyard towards the Caracoles passage.
Thinking about a second home, it is inevitable to imagine a place with special features, much more if it is facing the sea. The Elizabeth House, as we call it for a long time in honor of his owner, who is a single 50 years old mother, reflects very well the clarity, simplicity and honesty with which, in our view, should tackle these projects.
