House on a Hill in Värmdö, Sweden by Tham & Videgård Arkitekter

Article source: Tham & Videgård Arkitekter

Only a twenty minutes drive from the city center, this house is built on a site that exemplifies the close access of untouched nature not far outside central Stockholm. In this case a large piece of land that reaches from the waterline, where a boathouse sits on the water, up through a steep forested slope to an open plateau at the top of the hill where the main house is located. The access road rises along a steep cliff from the landside which means that the house is approached from below and that the extraordinary position of the house with wide views out over the archipelago landscape can only be fully understood once arrived at the main level.

House on Krokholmen in Värmdö, Sweden by Tham & Videgård

Tuesday, September 26th, 2017

Article source: Tham & Videgård

The site is a promontory on the relatively small island of Krokholmen in Stockholm’s outer archipelago: a typical archipelago landscape with windswept dwarf pines and soft mountain outcrops produced by the inland ice. The plot benefits from open views, in the east all the way out to the lighthouse Almagrundet in the open sea, and it is at times exposed to strong winds. The family wanted a maintenance-free vacation home in one level with social space both inside and outside.

PULKABACKEN (the sled hill) in VÄRMDÖ, SWEDEN by Street Monkey Architects

Sunday, June 21st, 2015

Article source:Street Monkey Architects

Constructed with prefabricated steel and concrete modules this 200m2 home is built on asteeply sloping site in an island suburb of Stockholm. Because of the sloping site and the close proximity of the neighbors we chose to camouflage this rather large volume under a sledding ramp and a roof terrace, making it extremely discreet from the road.
