Mortuary Chapel for the Soriano-Manzanet Family in Vila-real, Spain by Vegas & Mileto

This vault was designed by architects Fernando Vegas and Camilla Mileto and executed by Salvador Gomis under the supervision of Salvador Tomás. It was created as a tribute both to the region’s rich ceramic-making tradition and to the characteristic tile vault technique, historically widespread throughout the East of Spain.

The Municipal Library was commissioned by the Town Hall and is located on the site of the old slaughter house, as per the Detailed Masterplan of the Old Industrial Zone (Polisvilareal). The building simultaneously houses two distinct institutions, which are physically independent:

The Municipal Library (BM2 type), which is part of the National Network of Public Reading
The Literary Club, for research purposes for the writers from the Tras-os-Montes region

Lordelo Pharmacy in Vila Real, Portugal by JOSÉ CARLOS CRUZ – ARQUITECTO

The Pharmacy is located in Vila Real, in the centre north of Portugal and is part of a peripheral zone of the city where the environment does not have a consolidated and uniform image. In the absence of external references, it was chosen to create a building with an abstract and neutral character, reinforced by the absence of openings. With oval shape footprint, the two floors are fully aluminum coated corrugated and perforated. The only direct opening to the outside is the main entrance that gives access to the sales area. By changing the interior light and the symbol of pharmacy, the building gains dynamic, allowing the image variation from day to night. The store not only sells medicines but also has its own laboratory for compounding pharmacy.
