Zhejiang Museum of Natural History in China by David Chipperfield Architects

Wednesday, March 4th, 2020

Article source: David Chipperfield Architects

Founded in 1929, the Zhejiang Museum of Natural History is located in Hangzhou and has a collection of over 200,000 specimens covering geology, ecology and palaeontology. The eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang is the site of many important discoveries from the Cretaceous period. A new, second branch of the museum has been established in Anji, in the north of the region, forming the centrepiece of a new cultural district.

The new museum is set on a sloping site in a large natural park surrounded by bamboo forests and overlooking rice fields in the valley below. It comprises a loose infrastructure of spacious exhibition halls, taking into account the large scale of some of the exhibits: Dinosaur fossils and life-size models, large-scale wildlife dioramas, accompanied by multimedia and interactive exhibition elements.

The project is the sales center of Wings Hangzhou, a residential property developed by DoThink in Hangzhou, China. It’s situated in Chengdong New Area, which is closely connected to Wulin Commercial Hub and Qianjiang New Town. DoThink identified the area’s great potential and located the property development Wings Hangzhou there. GFD, a local interior design firm, was entrusted to conceive the sales center.

Upon entering the sales center is the foyer. It’s paved with marble floorings characterized by bright hues and straight grain, which looks warm under the soft light. The sales control counter well combines the metal front surface featuring strips with the black granite presenting dynamic patterns, which showcases the contrast of solidness and flexibility and enriches sensory experiences in the space.

Shunfenglou Seafood Restaurant in Zhejiang, China by TOPOS DESIGN CLANS

Wednesday, April 24th, 2019

Article source: TOPOS DESIGN CLANS

TOPOS DESIGN CLANS announced the latest project, a seafood restaurant in Yongqiang, Wenzhou, on the coast of East China Sea, with a theme inspired by the ocean beside the city. Shunfenglou Restaurant is a well-known old fashioned local seafood restaurant. On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of its founding, the owners of the restaurant have announced a bold innovation. They entrusted TOPOS DESIGN CLANS to reinvent the restaurant as a place with a fully renewed sensory dining experience. Drawing on the symphony “La Mer” composed by the French musician Claude Debussy, who is the impressionist music master in the early 20th century, the designers created a series of synesthetic experiences about the sea with the deconstructed space, and presented an impressionist symphony of blue sea for the new restaurant.
