Zhuhai is blessed with mountains and sea, with the city co-exists in harmony with the nature. This coastal city is undergoing a new planning and design, and the Hengqin Island will include a high density financial hub. In the middle of the island is the Lake Tian scenic area on the mountain. The Huafa Plaza development amalgamates 3 key development sites within the new Hengqin District in Zhuhai. It will accommodate over 300,000sqm of boutique retail, food and beverage facilities, and office space when built with expected construction completion in 2019.
The winning design consists of 3 high rise towers together with 3 boutique retail and F&B environments.
Located at the heart of the Hengqin Island in Zhuhai, China, and is just five minutes away from Macau, the project is positioned as both a tourist destination and a cultural/creative incubator for Southeast Asia. This mixed-use development features a retail ring which seamlessly links different experiences together while embracing a massive courtyard garden – the Heart of China Garden.
The project is based on the use of a privileged positioning of the building within a corner site, so as to celebrate the various views of the diverse landscapes around it. It has been created a main ribbon, driven by a circulation shaped by the views. It starts in the northeast corner of the site at the last floor all the way till the south east to create a panoramic platform for the urban frontage of the site; then it starts to descend towards the southwest as it approaches the water frontage and its beautiful views. Finally it turns around at the northwest corner and it touches the ground level to embrace the landscape and the inner plaza.
