Article source: Arjen Reas Architects

Villa Out of the box is situated on the edge of Zoetermeer, next to the Bentwoud Park. The design is a contemporary interpretation of the rural surroundings. Inspired by the local building typology, the villa closes itself off from the busy street, only to open itself up to the garden via several carefully designed terraces.

The original house, built in 1999 has undergone a complete transformation. The original house consisted of vertical rectangular volumes with three floors. Attached to the volume was slanted covering of combined glass and copper cladding. This lead to unacceptable leakage and an unacceptable climate right from the original completion.

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

Article source: Paul de Vroom Architecten

De Jacobsvlinder (Cinnabar) School, previously known as the Prins Bernhard School, is a part of the restructuring of the Palenstein neighbourhood, a quarter of Zoetermeer near the centre, built in the nineteen-sixties. Architecturally, the new school building forms the link between the urbanity of the Nieuw-Schoutenhoek housing complex currently under construction, and the small-scale character of the existing village of detached houses that directly adjoins the location.
