Villa Out of the box is situated on the edge of Zoetermeer, next to the Bentwoud Park. The design is a contemporary interpretation of the rural surroundings. Inspired by the local building typology, the villa closes itself off from the busy street, only to open itself up to the garden via several carefully designed terraces.
A new business premises has been built for NBD Biblion, an organisation that provides services for public libraries and multimedia centres in the Netherlands. The colourful and highly sustainable building is designed by LIAG architects and building advisors.
The original house, built in 1999 has undergone a complete transformation. The original house consisted of vertical rectangular volumes with three floors. Attached to the volume was slanted covering of combined glass and copper cladding. This lead to unacceptable leakage and an unacceptable climate right from the original completion.
De Jacobsvlinder (Cinnabar) School, previously known as the Prins Bernhard School, is a part of the restructuring of the Palenstein neighbourhood, a quarter of Zoetermeer near the centre, built in the nineteen-sixties. Architecturally, the new school building forms the link between the urbanity of the Nieuw-Schoutenhoek housing complex currently under construction, and the small-scale character of the existing village of detached houses that directly adjoins the location.
This two-storey housing block for 24 mentally disabled is built within an existing neighbourhood. Here, 12 people live in 2 groups, and 12 people in an autonomous unit, all supported by medical facilities and a small team of caregivers.
