Biplap Sarkar

Biplab joined Vectorworks in 2000. He was made CTO in 2008 and has been CEO since 2016. In this position, his main responsibility is to provide strategic leadership by working with the Board of Directors and the Executive Management Team to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies for revenue growth and expansion of market share. As a part of setting these goals and enacting these strategies, Biplab seeks out technology and process innovations to ensure Vectorworks remains a best-in-class CAD and BIM solution for designers.

Many consider time to be the most valuable resource we have. We at  Vectorworks  know that this notion rings especially true for today’s designers. How we work has dramatically evolved over the past several years, and designers must manage, prioritize, and effectively utilize their time to meet their clients’ high demands and deadlines while not sacrificing their work’s integrity and originality. We also know that designers deserve tools that enhance their creativity and make their jobs more straightforward and efficient instead of restricting them with tedious technological tasks. That’s what our team has strived to accomplish with the release of our latest version — software that accelerates processes and provides you with more time to do what’s most important — design.

Vectorworks 2023 features an extensive collection of new tools, performance improvements, and feature enhancements that we are proud to offer in our continued effort to empower you to design without limits.

BIM
Vectorworks 2023 brings significant updates that will accelerate your BIM workflows without getting bogged down by technology. We’ve re-engineered and modernized core architectural objects to be more intuitive through all phases of a project, alleviating the amount of hands-on work required to create and edit day-to-day documentation.

You’ll save time and reduce potential errors with the new Graphic Legends tool. This innovative tool completely removes the manual process of creating graphic legends, automatically coordinating with the resources you’ve used, giving you an easy editing and customization process and ensuring accuracy. Vectorworks 2023 also eliminates the task of tediously defining the parameters of common building objects. With direct modeling and editing for Doors and Windows, you can now create and edit doors and windows by simply drawing a rectangle on the face of a wall or line spanning an opening in 2D. Plus, new folding door and window configurations can now accommodate a custom number of leaves and sashes to help you quickly create and manage common multiple folding door and window configurations instead of custom modeling them yourself.

The latest version also includes critical improvements to Wall tools, including combining the Wall and Round Wall tools, more consistent ways to create and edit walls, and better control for texture mapping and inserting objects into walls. Enhanced elevation benchmarks offer better change management of BIM models and faster drawing creation. Now connected to Story Levels, new elevation benchmarks are automatically created in Section and Elevation viewports and are symbols-based, making graphics more customizable to fit your exact needs. You’ll also see improvements to Structural Member objects, bringing the ability to “style” a structural member so its parameters can be saved, edited, and reused by you or your teammates, providing more control over your modeling workflow when exploring different design options or when a change is needed.

We continue to prioritize the critical role data plays in BIM. You’ll find that Vectorworks 2023 makes even better use of data and resources, resulting in more precise BIM models and documentation. Powerful data reporting additions simplify the process of creating detailed reports and quantity takeoffs for building objects, allowing for precise reports for walls, slabs, roofs, and railing/fence objects and their defining components. The Data Manager’s capabilities have expanded, making it more predictable and easier to use when creating and managing all data types. Users can search, filter, and select multiple data sets, copy and paste information and apply it to other data sets. Vectorworks 2023 also offers more control of creating and customizing data tags.

 Interoperability
Vectorworks 2023 offers even more ways to work with whoever, whenever- no matter the platform. New Revit file import options give you more flexibility when collaborating with consultants and clients using Revit. Now, Vectorworks supports the translation of more Revit object types and provides better organization of the imported file data. You can also reference a Revit file directly for a better collaborative workflow.

With improved BIM issue management features, we’re proud to offer our users a better, faster, and more accurate BIM collaboration experience when using BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) files. Vectorworks’ BCF Manager is now a web palette, meaning it can be kept open, allowing you to seamlessly and efficiently manage model changes with cloud-based collaboration tools. You’ll also experience faster, more reliable results working with IFC files. You can collaborate efficiently with faster imports and the ability to import from more applications. You’ll have greater control of imported files with new options to filter objects upon import and access to class, story, and criteria-based mapping for alignment with your Vectorworks file organization.

User Experience
We want our software to do the heavy lifting for you, so in Vectorworks 2023, you’ll find performance improvements that will help get you started, streamline tasks, and eliminate unnecessary distractions. Getting help with Vectorworks is now easier than ever with the new Home Screen – your all-in-one source for training, learning, product information, and growth opportunities. Our team developed the Home Screen to set new designers up for success and provide resources to more experienced designers looking to take their skills to the next level.

Designed to save you time and reduce multiple steps, the new Offset Edge tool lets you offset edges and edge loops from planar and non-planar faces. Offset edges will also include the automatic Push/Pull mode and the support for non-planar faces of 3D objects, giving you more flexibility in your creative process and reducing the steps it takes to model unique solid objects. With Vectorworks 2023, you’ll also be able to visualize your projects with more realism while working on your design. The Shaded Render Mode supports more light objects, glow textures, environmental lighting, and reflections, so you’ll clearly understand your project while designing and ensure better quality rendering output.

BIM for Landscape
Vectorworks is paving the way to make adopting BIM into your landscape-specific workflows easy. With improved visual and organizational capabilities and new tools for site grading and hedgerows, you can go even further with your creativity. With version 2023, you’ll find new site modifier modes and intuitive ways to account for proper grading on paved and unpaved surfaces. Plus, you’ll be able to breathe new (plant) life into your projects with the integration of Laubwerk Plant objects. Our partnership with Laubwerk provides access to a new, extensive library of 3D plant geometry with a wide range of detail levels, seasonal changes, and growth representations.
