Supernova is a conference area within the Jaarbeurs Utrecht (the largest fair and conference centre of The Netherlands).
The 3500 m2 area includes a foyer and four meeting rooms: one for 454 persons, two meeting rooms for 80 persons each and one meeting room for 460 persons, which can be divided into two smaller rooms.
This area will also be the connection between other buildings such as the existing conference center Mediaplaza and a future cinema.
The location of this residence is highly exceptional: flanked by small-scale detached semi-classical houses with gabled roofs on one side, a large apartment block planned on the other. The client wanted his dwelling to provide maximum privacy. The house represents the transition between these two worlds: the façade facing the apartment block is closed with the exception of a protruding stairwell that offers an intriguing view along the façade; the other side of the building consists of an informal configuration of rectangular volumes fitted with a large number of windows.
Approaching the house from the street level, one notices a raw, chamfered concrete fascia. The windowless façade reveals the interior of the house, almost as if the house is still in a state of construction, primitive in its language of expression. The raw elevation provides glimpses of a spiral staircase drum, with a seemingly makeshift timber box protruding from the articulated structural elements, augmenting the sense of theatrics in a neighbourhood of quiet terrace houses.
The Ormond Rd Apartments, a small residential development located in the popular Melbourne bayside suburb of Elwood, sits within the established shopping & café precinct of Ormond Rd near Port Phillip Bay. It is made up of two commercial tenancies opening to the street, and ten one and two bedroom units that extend over and down a traditional, urban Melbourne bluestone lane.
