Able2Extract PDF to AutoCAD Converter

Friday, April 11th, 2014

Able2Extract is a conversion tool to convert PDF to AutoCAD formats, as well as PDF to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, HTML, image formats and much more.

According to a company spokesman, AutoCAD users may need to convert vector images and text locked in native PDF files to editable DWG or DXF files. AutoCAD offers the ability to save a drawing as PDF, so users can share their drawings, plan or projects with their clients, project leaders or other stakeholders. Professionals from various fields often choose to share their work (designs or drawings) in PDF because the PDF format is platform-independent and doesn’t require the native application to view the document. Another advantage of PDF is that it preserves the formatting of documents, so the sender (file creator/author) ensures that the recipients of the file see it as they are intended.

AutodeskSubscription offers more flexibility with 2015 product release

Tuesday, April 1st, 2014

AutodeskSubscription offers a modern way for customers to purchase and access the software and services that they need to grow their business, and new purchasing options allow customers to choose the plan that best fits their current project needs and budget. The flexibility offered in this way of purchasing and accessing software allows for greater flexibility for a broader spectrum of customers.

“We like the subscription program with Autodesk because it provides predictability and stability; it simplifies our licensing, and it gives us a lot of flexibility,” said Gene Evans, Autodesk subscription administrator for Woolpert, a US-based design, geospatial and infrastructure management firm. “In addition, upgrades on subscription are pretty much a no-brainer. We budget a static sum every year, and it’s been easy to predict our costs, we can upgrade at any time, whenever it works for us. Subscription also allows us to explore cloud services and evaluate where they will benefit us as a company and make better informed decisions. Subscription is the only way to go for us.” (more…)

Friday, January 31st, 2014

The 1st Place Winner from Autodesk’s Excellence in Infrastructure Competition this past fall was HNTB, for the Expansion of Denver International Airport, originally built in 1995. The project was started in 2008-09, and includes 519-room hotel, a rail line from downtown to a hotel, which was part of the original master plan of the airport when it was originally built. The expansion includes the integration of a rail line, new baggage handling system, and the new airport is being prefabbed with a new entry way, security checkpoints, baggage screening – all of that being developed with the hotel.

Denver International Airport embodies an “airport city” concept.

“You can see where the rail line comes in and the glass wave shape at the top is the new hotel project,” said Eddy Krygiel, architect at HNTB. “It’s all attaching to the south side of the airport. We moved over 1 million cubic feet of earth in excavation.”

Rand Secure Data Division offers secure data archiving

Friday, January 17th, 2014

Eric Carpenter of Rand Secure Data, a division of Rand Worldwide, the parent of IMAGINiT, talked recently at Autodesk University about secure archiving of data and the increased need for AEC solutions in this field. Secure archiving of data has been prevalent in the enterprise of banking and other industries. AEC is now subject to increasingly external regulations, and data must be regulated carefully. Changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) have stressed that proper management of electronically stored information is essential when working with partners and multiple internal departments on a project. The size and special requirements of data such as point cloud data and files related to each other such as occur in a BIM model have to be taken into consideration. In response to this need, Rand Secure Data has released a comprehensive the Data Governance Solution that provides AEC firms with the tools for eDiscovery, email backup and archiving.

“An example is Newforma for point cloud data, it only shares what the users have time to enter. With our Data Governance Solution, it captures all the information and catalogues it. It also compresses data down to a fraction and uses Rand’s Data Center to store it,” said Carpenter.
