AECCafe Today Posts Tagged ‘architecture’sg2012 kicks off in Troy, NYFriday, March 23rd, 2012Last night at SmartGeometry 2012 (sg2012) (hosted by Bentley Systems) kicked off for the press with a tour of the workshop itself, located in the EMPAC building on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. This is where architects are busy putting together their projects, working in “clusters” with various materials. The theme is “Material Intensities – simulation, energy, environment.” Participants have been working in their clusters for four days now.
BlackBox research computational design resource for urban formMonday, March 19th, 2012Keith Besserud, AIA, is the director of BlackBox, a research-oriented computational design resource within the Chicago office of Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM). With design partner, Ross Wimer, Keith set up the BlackBox studio in 2007 to lead the development and integration of advanced computational concepts within the multi-disciplinary design processes of the office. This includes reviewing computational tools used in architecture and how they apply in urban design.
