The office space was planned to be about 190 square meters and made to accommodate 5 people.

  • Architect: Schemata Architecture
  • Location: Shibuya ward Tokyo
  • Completion Date: June 2010
  • Principle use: Office
  • Structure: RC
  • Floor area: 188.20m
  • Construction: Eiger
  • Furniture: E&Y
  • Epoxy: Syuhei Nakamura
  • Technical Cooperation: Izumi Okayasu
  • Photo: Takumi Ota

The design was split into 2 kinds of parts, furniture and infrastructure. The idea was to keep the feel or the area big so you can feel 190 square meters in any place in this office.

The lighting with 3.4m parabolic reflectors can reflect not only light, but sound as well. The meeting place does not require any partition.

The lighting in the meeting room is duplicated by the bright natural light from a metal halide lighting system. The lighting system cannot make shadows because parabolic reflector diffuse reflections. The parabolic reflector also increases the voice between each separate seat when sitting under the reflector.

The office also consists of some other interesting furniture. They converted 4 chairs into a bench. The legs of the bench are made of epoxy resin and transparent. They also made the base lighting system by splitting a spiral tube into two in order to match the reflectors to the other duct-works on the ceiling.

I would call the office Mr. Reflector instead of Mr. Design. Check out all the other images below:
