Jøssingfjord Competition Proposal in Norway by Imago (designed using Revit)December 1st, 2011 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Imago The idea of the project is to link the landscape to the new building and the exbuilding to the entire scenario of Jøssingfjorden; it’s valleys and context, both visual, historical and technological. The architecture of the proposal will express the power and intentions that people have had for generations. It will make use of the most developed technologies and formal principles as they did according to their time. The proposal connects the two mountains (2 dominant resources) of the valleys and will give the museum and the geopark a new stronger character with a program that fulfills the requirements of function, management and maintenance. It is changing technologically and economically feasible. The proposal meets the requirements and the terms as described in the competition documentation according to program, space /areas and possesses a certain capacity of exception.

It will be part of the national attraction but it provides a much broader application; and may be used for teaching and meetings at all levels. On the outside, play, eat a packed lunch, take photos, continue into the woods, come up on the mountain or be inside the museum, hear a lecture, read, participate in a workshop, have a dinner or have drink a coffee. The museum has many possibilities. It has a restaurant for weddings, birthdays or local gatherings but, also an attractive place for seminars and workshops, both private and public. It contains an auditorium that can accommodate 120 or 150 people. A place to show to your friends, your family, a place that puts Jøssingfjord on the adventure map.
“Allmenningen” There is an old Norwegian word that expresses the availability without discrimination. The concept is universal access for all, in our case an allmenning with themes, museum collections, research, international mediation, adventure and tourism.
Construction Principle The concept is a building in the shape of a bridge. The structural model consists of a tower which contains the vertical communication (stairs and elevators) and a suspended bridge composed of boxes that accommodate the diverse program and its features. The sides of the bridge will have window openings, but the openings will not weaken the structure’s strength avoiding lateral movements, or torsion fractures. Controlled calculations on a pre-designed model of the building have been done to test its structural strength. The result is a harnessed construction with 6 cables.
