AB design studio creating a high-design | high-tech space for a new pediatric dental office in Southern California, named simply as “Sugarbug.”  Our client wanted a fun, explorative, out-of-the box designed interior to provide services to his dental clients. The design of the interior was mainly directed by focusing on the experience of the child patient. Also important in the process of designing this interior was a focus placed on branding. Like many of our commercial tenant improvement projects, this project focuses on enabling the architecture of the space to contribute directly to the Sugarbug brand that the client is creating. The finished product will blend together all the aspects of the business of running a contemporary dental office through a well thought out and comprehensively designed architectural, functional, informational and graphical experience.

The space contains a feast of colliding forms and surfaces that are meant to dazzle and engage the small patients and their parents. Upon entry into the office, one is arrives into an engaging reception area that also doubles as a play area for the patients and family. Each operatory has interesting finishes, light and sound controls. A place for each parent was provided outside the operatories to allow them to sit, relax and observe nearby. The space is designed to meet all the needs of a modern dental practice while creating an environment that is inviting, comfortable and stimulating for children, parents and the dental office staff. Through rigorous programming and design discussions during the early planning of the project, we were able to pack a complex set of operational requirements into a relatively tight commercial space. The interior architecture of the new space allows for a discrete separation between the experience of the patients and the busy dental staff. Like a theatrical performance, the patient’s experience is carefully orchestrated by a host of “behind the curtain” activities that enable the staff to function efficiently and unnoticed.

AB design studio focuses on exquisite design, and full-service architectural and interior design services for all types of projects.  On this particular project we designed and programmed each space with our client through a process using 3D visualization and interactive design. This collaborative design approach allows us to test and communicate the direction of the project and the budget with the client and their consultants and contractors. We will handle all aspects of the project from initial concept all the way through construction budgeting, construction administration and post occupancy.
