Two individual houses were to be designed for 2 brothers and their families was the brief of this project. The plot (1000 smt) is situated in the R3 zone of the outskirts of Ahmedabad (a city in the western part of India). A very clear instruction from the client was that they did not want to divide the plot and use it as a huge common space for both the families.
Shadowboxx responds to a desire to facilitate an intimate understanding of its setting and explores the tradition of gathering around a fire. The site for this island retreat is a remote, windy point of land in the San Juan Islands in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Tucked between a thicket of trees and a rising bank, the house angles toward the bluff with its fifty-foot drop to the sea and view of the Olympic Mountains beyond.
With the purpose in re-qualifying an old building belonging to a derelict industrial area, this project proposes a new concept for a banking branch by presenting an innovative attendance desk design that leads to a new and fresh appearance, language and workplace blueprint, without losing the institution’s identity. This new image needs to be cohesive, simple in its form, identifiable from other institution’s branches, communicative and friendly.

It is famous for having been the home of Baron Žiga Zois (1747-1819) who marked Slovenian history as the patron of Slovenian cultural renaissance.
City Green Court is the third of a cluster of buildings designed by Richard Meier & Partners and it completes the corner of the Radio Plaza superblock located in the Pankrac area of Prague. The building is conceived of as a geometric volume in dialogue with the near context while offering respected contrast to the surrounding buildings. Smaller in scale than its predecessor and sibling, City Tower, it is equally inspired by the language of Czech Cubism, with a façade that while addressing issues of conservation and sustainability incorporates forms reminiscent of this avant-garde movement. The quote below, in essence, sums up the philosophy and concepts behind City Green Court.

For an architect, the task of giving a manor house a new purpose and function is of course a fascinating, yet also complex, challenge. Villas such as Hartenaugasse 6 rank at the very top of the range of desirable residences. Yet the shape of living space today has changed altogether fundamentally in comparison with the ideas prevailing at the time the villas were designed. This accounts for the fact that many of these buildings are put to other uses today.

The arrival at the house is characterised by two exposed concrete walls which surround the building, both hiding and sheltering it. Access is established via a ramp covered by a canopy which extends from the house until the gate, set against an iron pillar. The house is essentially closed to the north and east, opening totally to the south and west in the direction of the sun, benefiting from a privileged relationship with the garden, patios and swimming pool.
When the client hired FORMA for the addition of a private V.I.P. dining room for Paolo’s Restaurant in Reston, the mandate was to the point – ”I want a sexy room”. The challenge was wrapping a catering kitchen, bar, access to the existing kitchen and seating a maximum number of guests around the new space and making it all work.
