Article source: Arquitectos Ayala This building has got two clearly distinct areas. The first area, a metallic structure, stands as a technologically useful container; it is enclosed by high quality pre-fabricated plate paneling and its floors and ceilings are totally technical. It lodges offices, control quarters, editorial offices, projection rooms, etc. i.e. the parts that share some requirements. The other area houses studios, workshops and warehouses. It was built with concrete walls covered by plain stone.
A series of basic criteria, followed to their utmost consequences from the very beginning, have made of this a singular building. Some of these criteria are the following: to think of the building as a factory that must work mechanically with the greatest accuracy; the need to humanize it, integrating it with the nature surrounding it. In order to meet these criteria, the building incorporates open spaces, gaps, double heights, landscaped areas, blind stretches of wall, etc. all of them elements which far from being superfluous, enhance the building and facilitate the connection between the different areas. The garden within the patio gives the feeling of working around landscaped corridors. The Tower, equipped with a small elevator and a spiral staircase which is protected from the sun by screens, stands out, emblematic and noble, over the island plain and is reflected on the river. At night, the light sifting through the metallic screens gives the Tower a mysterious air and makes of it a “milestone” on the island. Contact Arquitectos Ayala
