Through the new plan strengthened availability and Geilo can be a vibrant downtown area for residents, cottage owners, tourists, young people, children and adults. The ability for maximum accessibility by train bus and car are unique to Geilo, and provides instead opportunities to develop into a “green ski destination ” and “National – village”.

The plan is based on the following main steps:

The Red Carpet: We want to make Geilo to a place one feel welcome. In the long drawn along the liberated city floor from Vesleslåttvegen to the church we laid a floor that welcomes everyone in both winter and summer. Ski tracks in dobbledance leads to the inner centre.

The Amfhie: The Mountain landscape brought into the city by establishing a continuous, rolling countryside carpet surrounded by mountains that connects the landscape from the train platform to the inner centre.

The amphitheatre is given a playful and rough design that also works as a major concert spot for 4000 people.
The amphitheatre is formed so that, for example. Snowboard competitions can be arranged in the centre of winter and BMX competitions in summer.

Most shops on the pedestrian plan are a renewed focus on small shops and sport shops.

The design is inspired by the surrounding nature.

The amphitheatre is emerging as a river valley between mirror images of Hallingsskarvet Mountain. The middle broken up into large rock surfaces as dry river ravines the amphitheatre and pedestrian is performed in two stone modular system overlap. The Amphie cover is a large bright flake, composed of 10 cm wide granite strips flexible to be shaped in the steep sections. Rough surface of the granite is used in all walking areas for applying a natural feeling unlike normal cities urban polished surfaces.
