Article source: JDArchitects JDA were commissioned to work with local architects A2Z to design and formulate a master plan for a 9 hectare site in the west area of Dubai city, close to international airport. JDA are responsible for the concept and design brief, with A2Z responsible for local design and technical brief. The completed master plan is 3.5m ft2 of new development and community. 70% of the development is residential apartments and duplex facing the parkland to the east. The central zone has a hotel with serviced apartments, shops and restaurants surrounding a piazza. The site runs east to west and can all be accessed by pedestrian ways through gardens, courtyards and climate controlled zones, with parking and utilities in the basement areas. JDA have designed a modern, sustainable development with local influences taken from traditional Emirate architecture. This includes a mosque, medical centres and nurseries. Mirdif is a gated community with all facilities for living in this harsh environment. Planning consent has been granted by Dubai Municipality. JDA have now embarked on detail design and tender for this project.
