Article source: van Es architecten At the end of 2014 van Es architecten has delivered the multifunctional reception- and meetingbuilding for Den Braven Sealants in Oosterhout, The Netherlands. The 600 square meters building includes a large auditorium, a demo room and various offices. The construction of this special building, which is situated on the business area ‘Vijf Eiken’, took about six months. Van Es architecten was responsible for the design, the technical development and supervision during the construction.
Centre of Excellence Den Braven Sealants wish as a client was to have a building suitable for workshops and training courses with an appearance matching the leading character of the company. This has been translated by van Es architecten in an open and accessible design inspired by the products of Den Braven. “The ‘Centre of Excellence’ needed to become an extension of the activities of the company,” according to Piet van Es, the managing director of van Es architecten. “With its unusual and bold appearance the building has become an eyecatcher in its surroundings.” Corian façade shell Van Es architecten has chosen for high quality and durable materials for the design. The facades are constructed with curtain wall façades , varied with concrete elements and black aluminum façade cladding. The entire first floor of the building is wrapped with a floating façade shell of DuPont® plates of 12 mm thickness in the color Glacier White. The particular pattern in the façade refers to the products of Den Braven, namely the sealant and adhesive drops. “The atmosphere of the building is appealing and very representative. The particular ever-changing lighting by the Corian façade contributes to this,” according to Dirkjan van Es, project architect for the Centre of Excellence. Air-tight construction The Centre of Excellence is equipped with the latest technologies. A geothermal groundwater pump with 7 drilling holes each reaching 125 meters into the ground, combined with 80 solar collectors on the roof, will generate the energy to power the fully sustainable building installations. To optimize the use of energy the Centre of Excellence has been constructed with an airtightness according to class 3, the highest class. Naturally all products are used out of the collection of Den Braven ‘Durable Airtight Constructing.’ About van Es architecten Van Es architecten is a mid-sized architectural firm situated in Sliedrecht.
