Article source: Boué Arquitectos Renowned Chef Alejandro Diaz, head of the famous restaurant Casa Oaxaca and a group of partners, trusted in Humberto Artigas Architects —who invited architect Gerardo Boue to collaborate— to develop the concept for their restaurant Guzina Oaxaca in Mexico City. This new restaurant specialized in the wonderful state of Oaxaca´s cuisine with the characteristic touch of Chef Díaz, is located on Masaryk street in the Polanco area.
The blend that should exist between the kitchen and the interior design of a restaurant must create an atmosphere where clients and operation feel in complete harmony. The main entry of natural light is the facade so it was decided to use white color as the core of the palette and color accents were given by plants and fine crafts from Oaxaca. At the entrance, by the Chef´s request, a comal (griddle) was located so the clientele and strollers may watch the cook preparing tortillas and other fine delicacies while the delicious aromas enhance the restaurant´s atmosphere. A long bench with tables and bar frame the central tables that end at the private lounge. One of the main challenges for the design of this restaurant was the reuse of all the possible materials, which were available from the previous design, without sacrificing the design concept and image required for Guzina Oaxaca.
