Restoration – Mythenschloss in Zurich, Switzerland by Fischer Architekten AGSeptember 16th, 2015 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Fischer Architekten AG Competition, Zurich 2014; 3rd place: The almost-lakeside Mythenschloss is located as an urban component within a mixture of stone, neoclassical buildings and modern glass cubes. Although its location marks an interface between the city square and the water, the structure is identical on both sides – the Mythenquais and Alfred-Escher-Strasse. The concept aims to correct this lack of differentiation and have differentiated sides.
The square-facing side now has no projections and recesses. With this delicate facade language, the building, precisely positioned on the existing traffic building line, evokes a dialogue with the urban fabric. The dimensions of the new facade remain unchanged. The clear internal arrangement of a classical building, as in the case of Mythenschloss, acts as a gentle component within the new design concept, without dominating it.
