Béton Provincial – extension in Quebec, Canada by Fugere Architecture IncOctober 27th, 2015 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Fugere Architecture Inc Due to the rapid growth of the company, Béton provincial needed more space to continue to operate efficiently, in a workspace that would reflect their signature and harmonize with the existing construction. Fugère Architecture was mandated to design a 3 storey extension of 775 m2, almost doubling the building area.
In this extension project, Fugère Architecture focused on the harmonization between the new construction and the existing building, in order to improve the whole rather than highlighting only the new structure. The new volume is a reminder of the oblique lines of the initial construction, the skylight replicates the roof pitch, and the wood used in the overhang perfectly matches the restored wood coating of the original building. The organization of the interior spaces is also very fluent between the new and the existing section. For the interior finish, FA proposed a concrete apparent structure, which sets the tone for the room layout and confirms the personality of the place. This project has been selected as a finalist in the competition for Mérites d’architecture 2012 in Québec City in the category « Commercial and Industrial Buildings – Renovation ».
