The architectural firm DITTEL | ARCHITEKTEN has developed and implemented a holistic new space concept for the nestor Hotel Neckarsulm. The redesign includes the entrance area with reception and lobby as well as the bar, lounge and restaurant and covers an area of 500 square metres. The change is aimed at presenting a clear design that welcomes and guides the guest while creating a pleasant atmosphere. The hotel was opened again in September 2015.

The reception area, bar and restaurant are the pivotal point of any hotel. This is where all the guests come together. „Our design evolved from the needs of the hotel guests. Each area stands on its own and is still part of the whole“, says Frank Dittel, Managing Director of the architectural firm. The materials and combination of colours give an impression that is both restrained and high-class. The natural colours of stone tiles and oak panelling create a very intimate atmosphere. Gentle mint-green and khaki shades form highlights in fabrics, walls and furniture.

The flooring and themes in the four areas still sets them apart from each other. In the lobby, the oak floor, lounge chairs and modern fireplace create a welcoming atmosphere. The wine bar forms the connection between the reception area and the restaurant and therefore makes up the centre of the space. True to its name, the focus is on wine: individual parts of the wine rack are spotlighted and make the wine bottles stand out. In the wine closet, which is accessible from the outside, the hotel guest can inspect the entire range of wines. When looking up, the exposed ceiling 3.50 metres above allows a view of the ceiling structure. The result is an impression of spatial depth. Black pendant lamps protrude into the room from there and partition the area with their spot lights.

The restaurant can accommodate about 100 guests and is framed by a buffet running along the walls. This popular seating arrangement along the façade makes optimal use of the space. The bright restaurant aims at providing the best solution for a variety of situations. At dinner time, the breakfast buffet can be easily separated. The desired atmosphere is created with spotlights in the ceiling as well as pendant and floor lamps that can be used individually. The restaurant can accommodate both large groups and smaller, private parties. Black room dividers made of steel with mint-green fleece liners give the room a classy look and serve as a noise and visual barrier. The Séparée fits into the design and is designed to suit several functions – such as conferences or wine tasting sessions.
