UNTITLED #7 in Singapore by Studio Wills + Architects

Untitled #7 is a renovation to an old 2-storey apartment at The Arris, located within Tanjong Pagar Area in Singapore.

The original pared-down interior stood in stark contrast with a context consisting of an eclectic mix of shop houses adorned with multiple colours, materials, textures and ornaments:  There was a strong division between the interior and the external environment.

The interior design took elements found within the context, distilled and contained them within 2 ‘BOXES’: one BLUE and the other BLACK, and strategically inserted them within the original interior.

One wonders if the new experience which oscillates between the original pared-down interior and the new ‘insertions’, abstracted from the eclectic external environment, will result in the illusion of a larger space:  An interior that expands beyond its own spatial and physical limits into the external environment and the City.
