Article source: El Equipo Creativo At the recent annual Restaurant & Bar Design Awards held in London, El Equipo Creativo was awarded two Restaurant & Bar Design Awards for their design of the Blue Wave bar (currently OneOcean Bar) in Barcelona. The Award ceremony started positively for El Equipo Creativo when the Blue Wave bar design received the ´Best Europe Bar´ design award and ended on an even better note with the team being called back on stage to collect the most coveted international bar design award: ‘Best Overall Bar´.
Restaurant & Bar Design Awards In 2016 the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards shortlisted 1000 entries in 37 categories from all across the world. Out of these winners the Overall Bar and the Overall Restaurant winners were chosen. The award for ´Best Overall Bar´ went to Blue Wave Bar and for ´Best Overall Restaurant´ to The German Gymnasium (designed by Conran & Partners). Celine Salman, judge at the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, commented on the winning Bar Design: “A perfect example of a cleverly and creatively well thought out space that is difficult to achieve yet easy to absorb and enjoy as an end user. A beautiful space that leaves you feeling inspired and positively energized.” Blue Wave Design The client, OneOcean Port Vell, asked El Equipo Creativo to create a place where you can enjoy cocktails in an elegant atmosphere whilst appreciating the beautiful waterside surroundings of Barcelona’s Port. El Equipo Creativo translated this vision into an interior that recreates a wave about to break, immersing the customers in a marine atmosphere full of reflection and shade, and creating the interplay of light and shadow at dawn. As the wave ´spills out´ it becomes something else, like sea foam, taking form through the use of reflective materials like marble slabs, metals and glass in the interiors. The colour ranges from the deep blue of the sea to the white of sea foam, culminating in the white concrete lattice façade of the restaurant’s exterior. One single material was used on all the surfaces (floors, walls and ceiling) to unify the space and heighten the sensation of being enveloped by the wave. Ceramic tile, designed especially for the project and handmade by local artisans, echoes the ocean and embodies the intrinsic qualities of Mediterranean architecture. The two Restaurant and Bar Design Awards are the third and fourth design awards to be received by El Equipo Creativo for this design. The studio received a CID Award for ´International Tile Design´ and the ´Interior Design Award´ from the ASCER Tile of Spain Awards of Architecture and Interior Design. Next to that the design has been shortlisted for the Leaf Awards.
