Cairn India’s exhaustive Design Brief aims to create a sustainable workplace Solution that incorporates the Best Design Practices of Interior Space Planning. Conceived as an ambitious Corporate Office relocation Project, the client brief defines a Collaborative environment with open and transparent spaces, with an option of being flexible and scalable. Imbibing the firm’s Culture while crafting a Work-Centric space, the intent was to create a friendly, yet professional Office Space that is Global in appeal, young, lively, open and vibrant and open in its treatment and spurs its people to be result-oriented, exploratory and analytical.
Designed as a LEED Platinum building (certified by USGBC), the office incorporates 2,00,000 sq.ft area spread over five floors in a standalone building, Lending a Distinct and Meaningful Expression to the Campus, and communicating the nature of work Cairns India is doing, the chosen theme for this Campus is Terra that manifests itself through the campus, to be in line with nature of work client is into. The project involves a major change management exercise and workplace consulting by housing all common amenities on the ground floor with three typical work floors, while the top floor is reserved for management officials. The various floors depict sub surface, surface and on-surface thematic expression through colors, textures, graphics, interior landscape and visual design elements. A central boulevard of activity around the cube clusters is planned with that brings together the spaces merging and flowing around the central meeting hub and is further supported by smaller collaboration/ breakout zones. The Central meeting hub flanked by cabins and cubicles encourage employee movement and interaction. Building upon the concept, the feeling of an entry into the earth core is envisaged to welcome the visitor into the facility. From there on, the lowest floors are the Sub Surface levels, the mid-levels are surface followed by the On-Surface levels. An open plan layout with full height rooms at either ends frees up the glazed surfaces for easier penetration of natural light and views. An organic approach leads to a futuristic and timeless design concept, is integrated with fluid forms that manifest into the design for reception, breakout and other community spaces. Space Enablers are planned to aid different work groups and activities; An option where-in the size of the cubicles size has been slightly reduced and the resultant space gained has been integrated and re-churned to provide a larger and substantial collaborative and open meeting environment. All spaces have been crafted in a flexible manner with a provision for multiple uses; cabins have furniture that serves a dual purpose of a meeting room as well. Desking concepts with low screens are enabled with a democratic plan for easy, unobstructed flow of natural light and views. Desking type workstations with minimal support structure for ease of densification facilitating BCP (business continuity programme) have been used with Additional power and data points that are provided to aid the densification process. Glass is utilized with variations of privacy provided by the use of different types of screens or film patterns. An Open landscape arrangement with a Central Key Feature, which is the Meeting/ collaborative HUB. The cabins flank the sides of the work-hall, with the low/ mid height cubes as neighborhood nodes. All meeting rooms are maintained in a particular fashion; the long wall consists of one writing board in the center, two stackable fabrics on either side and this whole unit is flanked by two artworks on either side which matches the theme of the floor. Ample use of graphics, prints, colors to portray a specific floor wise theme; The colors are captured on each floor, through carpet colors, fabric (on seating and workstations) panels, table top of breakouts, wall colors, and types of graphics. The use of a light base palette such as grey supported by punches of lively color accents in the floor carpet, and wall paints. THE WHITE ROOM is a special space, refreshing and timeless, to be used for the workspaces, with ideation and brain storming areas. The white is like a blank canvas for all the fresh ideas to crop up and creative juices to flow. Flexibility with an ability to orchestrate your Workspace is the key to a satisfied User. By using a combination of fixed and moving components, a highly evolved Workplace Design Solution has been achieved. Modular demountable partitions are enabled to aid the ease of modification of workspace at a short notice. Storage is an integral part of any facility; Proving and planning their locations is crucial with easy access of the same that leads to optimized performance, a concept that has been well-integrated into the design of the building.
