Inhabiting the urban lungs green building project is an office project that apply green and sustainable approach on its detailing. The propose project is located at Jalan Tun Ismail, KualaLumpur, Malaysia. Green building, also known as green construction or sustainable building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient through out a building lifecycle: from sitting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction. This practice expands and complements the classical building design that typically concerns on economy, utility, durability and comfort.

building design strategies:

This Office green building project brings together a vast array of practices and techniques to reduce and ultimately eliminate the impacts of buildings on the environment and human health.

It often emphasizes taking advantage of renewable resources, e.g., using sunlight through passive solar, active solar ,techniques and using plants and trees through undulating green floor, and rain water harvesting.

Most strongest strategy features:

Building protection

By using metal envelope as wall skin at each departments pod could reduce and protect the tenants from outsider pollution, while maintaining wide view through glass window.

Sustainability

The green undulating floor could help buildings reduce energy consumption, which leads to a decrease in carbon emissions. There are also mitigate the urban heat island effect, absorb and filter stormwater, reduce pollution and act as carbon sinks. The systematic of envelope skin wall placing by according sunlight penetration also is reason by sustainability approached.

indoor air quality

according to modern scientific research, indoor environments may be as much as ten times more polluted than the outdoor environment. This is known as “Sick Building Syndrome”.

The good news is that all plants absorb and clean pollutants from the air. Certain tropical species are more efficient than others.

this green undulating floor and some green floor at above and ground of pods was helpful in doing such roll.

health & wellness

Studies have shown that simply having a view of greenery increases human productivity. Furthermore, having plants indoors reduces symptoms of discomfort. This decreases the number of days off due to “sickness”.

Energy savings

Some studies have shown that interior green walls can cut electricity bills by up to 20%! and this green undulating floor has overcome that situation. The using of envelope also can protect form direct sunlight into the building which indirectly can reduced the using of air conditioner at each pods.

acoustics

Studies have shown that the leaves of plants attenuate sound by reflecting, refracting and absorbing acoustic energy in small amounts.

so that the reason of putting green element into this kind of project was giving much appreciated as core value, since the site of project at the heart of Kuala Lumpur which is the capital of Malaysia.

Aesthetic

An artistic approach towards individual pods are not only bring uniqueness on the entire building mass against the surrounding, but it come with functionality and practicality that well adapt with tropical climate of Malaysia.

“A sincere artist is not one who makes a faithful attempt to put on to canvas what is in front of him, but one who tries to create something which is, in itself, a living thing.” – Sir William Dobell

Building Structure:

The building structure are dominantly by using steel and concrete. Steel column and framing would use to form and support each pods. While concrete would be use for massive undulating green floor, as well as column that designed as organic form skin to hang up each pods.

Department Pods:

The proposed materials for each pods wall skin are by using high performance metal cladding that could reduce heat penetration. The selection comes by proving on sustainable aspect from the manufacturers.

Finishes:

All finishes will use certified green products from selective manufacturers to ensure the project would align with sustainable approach that vital on current world agenda.
