Article source: DEFERRARI+MODESTI The BRAC bookstore and cafe was conceived in May of 2009 and immediately established itself as a central point in Florence for all those with a passion for contemporary art and cuisine. The formula of a ‘library with a kitchen’, a breath of fresh air in the city, combines the passions of the owners Sacha and Melisa: a chef specialized in vegan and vegetarian cuisine with a love for comics and illustration and a bibliophile with an interest for all contemporary art forms (theatre, dance, cinema, photography).
Since 2009 until today the BRAC bookstore has hosted book presentations, readings and photography reviews. Since 2011 it has produced two important events; ‘’Scritture di Luce’’ (or Writings of Light), organized by Deaphoto with Sandro Bini and Michelangelo Chiaramida, which sees the participation of the major publishing houses specialized in photography; and ‘’Scripta; l’arte a parole’’ (or Script, art in words), curated by Pietro Gaglianò who each month makes a point on the state of art critique in Italy through interviews with curators and the main protagonists of the art world. Throughout the years, the BRAC bookstore has hosted artists, art critics, curators, photographers, writers, architects and graphic novel authors. Many individuls have participated in the library meeting such as: Mimmo Jodice, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Ferdinando Scianna, Silvia Camporesi, Gianni Pettena, Robert Pettena, Gabi Scardi, Teresa Macrì, Adriana Polveroni, Pietro Gaglianò, Marco Brizzi, Eva Parigi, Marco Senaldi, Sonia Pedrazzini, Bianco Valente, Loris Cecchini, Alessandro Dal Lago, Serena Giordano, Marco Pierini, Fabio Cavallucci, Alberto Salvadori, James Bradburne, Mario Perniola, Demetrio Paparoni, Sergio Risaliti, Lucilla Meloni, Pier Luigi Tazzi, Valerio Magrelli, Alba Donati, Paolo Nori, Kinkaleri, Makkox, Zerocalcare, Vanna Vinci and La Bambina Filosofica. The main room and the courtyard of the BRAC bookstore welcome installations and performances by young artist.
