A project that was born from the desire of commissioning a recurrence and innovate so not usual, by way of \”experimenting\” with new forms of activity, and that turns into a new architectural expression. A project that engages in Etna area, a crossroads of flows and the heart of the historic center: the main hub of the Catania movida, but above all the history and culture of a dynamic city and always looking for new challenges.

The idea is brought to life by the shapes and types of construction of the port of Catania, recovering an item belonging to the visual imagery of the place, reinterpreting it and turning it into a cafe, a small recreational area.

A cocktail bar that fits so perfectly to the shape of the landscape, area of call tourists but first and foremost to freight, containers overlapping each other and colors that characterize them.

Thus was born the idea of a 40-foot container that gets rest stop, a meeting point for the city, while offering the opportunity to taste some of the typical Catania for the curious tourists arriving from cruises, or just read a book.

Specially designed and manufactured item, which breaks down as if it were a box, and on opening comes to life. Consists of moving parts that take on different configurations, depending on the type of service you want to offer in a particular period or event.

The idea of a \”container\” facilitates the realization, as everything can be assembled and adjusted in workshop before being transported, when complete, the port area. Inside, in fact, it is complete with all services needed to carry out the task, and this provides the added value of the adaptability of this element in multiple places.

The two panels more surge upward through a system of hydraulic Pistons, becoming themselves coverings and leaving room for the service area. A lesser panel becomes a display wall, the other contains a staircase leading to the upper terrace, from which you can admire the harbor and town.

The size of the container closed 12.19 m x 2.43 m, are coming to 16.91 m x 7.75 m in open configuration.

The materials used are simple: oven-painted sheet metal to ensure a longer lasting and teak wood as a finishing material.

The area of relevance is used with tables and chairs are also expressly studied and realized in sheet metal, while the planters are made of precast concrete channels, commonly used for channels under track of roads.

The result is something that turns out to be totally integrated within a port area, which, lying on the central pier, enjoying the view of the sea on both sides.
