There’s a new funky kid in Maastricht: hotel The Dutch. Although the name suggests otherwise, you’ll find here everything except Delftware, wooden shoes and tulips. At The Dutch, situated in a beautiful mansion, you imagine yourself back in the ‘80s of today. Expect the colors of Miami Vice, the coziness of Full House and the out-of-this-world elements of Alf. Discover a classy mix of rotating disco balls, pink flamingos, pop ups of ‘The Hoff’ and fitness lady Jane Fonda who ‘wants you to take the stairs’. Definitely a place that Madonna then and now would enjoy to the fullest. ‘Let’s hear it for the boys’ of Twin Peaks Hospitality! Besides Hotel Beaumont and restaurant Harry’s owners Jean-Marc and Christophe Beaumont created another outspoken hotel concept with a one of a kind holiday experience in the beautiful city of Maastricht.

Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These)

Time has definitely not stood still at The Dutch. The 49 unique rooms (ranging from small to Xlarge) are all-in combined with modern comfort and bold design. Enjoy a luxurious bed by Auping for the best sweet dreams, a well-stocked Smeg mini-fridge for late night cravers, and a breakfast bag for a healthy start of the day. The Dutch is heaven for late risers; you can hit the snooze button until 12h00. The fun doesn’t stop when leaving the room. The Hangout, The Garden and The Lobby Bar guarantee lots of extra relax space. Besides mister Gorilla & Crocodile, the Flamingo Twins and other guests you can also spot locals at The Dutch, who have discovered the gin & tonic, craft beers and charming service at the bar. And they are definitely ‘keeping up with the Dutch’ when it comes to money: one allinclusive price for the room, minibar, Wi-Fi, breakfast bag and ‘24/7 Hangout’ coffee, tea, water and fruit.

One thing is for sure: The Dutch is an unforgettable journey through time, for city explorers as well as business travelers. In addition, the hotel is located in the Maastricht district ‘Wyck’, known for its exclusive shops, trendy bars and lovely restaurants. Plenty to discover and The Dutch will of course provide you with an overview of their must see & do’s of the city. Don’t want to lose the ‘The Dutch-feeling’? No worries! There are enough souvenirs to bring home, such as a signed photo of The Hoff and the famous oh-so-uglyit’s- cool white sport socks.

Not another Design Hotel

Flamingos in the lobby, pink hallways, mint green seats, a tropical courtyard full of palm trees. “Hospitality these days should be an experience.” Says Tim Reiters, founder of Ontwerpbureau Reiters. He was asked by the men of Twin Peaks Hospitality to create a young and fresh visual concept which will exite the modern traveler. The interior of The Dutch can be labeled ‘eclectic with a tropical ‘80s touch’. Reiters: “I hate the term ‘Design Hotel’. Being driven by design is the worst direction in which to go. What we need is mood, feeling, sexiness and playfulness. That’s what people look for when they want to really experience something. A hotel needs to inspire.” That does not mean that there are no iconic design pieces in to the hotel. Quite the contrary.

When entering ‘The Lobby Bar’ you stumble upon the brass check-in counter which overflows into a bar of shiny black tiles from D-Tile. The design of the check-in counter and bar is a design of Chantal Cornelussen. Chantal is responsible for the complete technical realization of the hotel’s interior. Next to the bar she, together with Reiters, designed the seats in The Lobby Bar (produced by Satelliet Furniture), the tables and seating units at The Hangout, the baths on the L and XL rooms (also D-Tile tiles) and the open closets and writing desks in all rooms.

Typically is the use of color in The Dutch. Pastels like soft pink, mint green and baby blue form a strong contrast with the many black and blue walls. The light gray floor tiles from Mosa at The Lobby Bar change into a beautiful vintage oak floor when you walk to ‘The Hangout’.

The many brass elements within the interior create a piece of cachet: Cog Dome pendant lamps by Tom Dixon above the black tiled bar, side tables from Ruijch and vintage glass bulb lamps from Glashütte Limburg. Framed photographs of surfers and tropical beaches combined with the many palm and banana trees provide for the tropical feeling. In The Hangout you can read a book sitting in the pink RO chairs from Fritz Hansen. In the rooms you sleep in wonderful Auping beds and work your diary sitting on chairs by Kartell.
