Article source: Babett Frehrking | Architect New Holiday Home in Hout Bay for a German client. The brief called for an 80sqm minimalist contemporary design, comprising a lounge with open plan kitchen/ dining area, one bedroom with walk-in-cupboard and bathroom.
The site is positioned on the slopes above Hout Bay overlooking the entire valley and the bay. The house was oriented to maximise views and provide protection from the prevailing South Easter wind. Views were optimised by utilising large openings which were set into deep recesses providing shade in the mornings. Louvered sliding folding shutters provide additional light management and security. The living area is connected to the outside through large sliding doors by means of a large terrace extending the space and views. The terrace, raised above the slope of the site, also serves as an entrance stoep. An external staircase at the back of the house leads up to a roof top terrace which provides an elevated platform that opens up the views of the valley, the sea and the mountains behind the site. This project was done in association with Mohammed Bassa Architectural Consulting. Contact Babett Frehrking | Architect
